You'll primarily extend and enhance both the backend services and frontend interfaces that power our funnel and onboarding builder—work that directly impacts how thousands of customers create and manage their checkout experiences.You'll be working in a mix of modern (object-oriented PHP, Laravel/Symfony, React) and legacy code, shipping features that matter while helping us incrementally modernize the stack.You'll work alongside a team of skilled engineers who care about clean code, pragmatism, and shipping reliable, usable systems.You'll have real impact on a system serving 65,000+ businesses, with the autonomy to incrementally modernize it.The Team & CodebaseEditor 2.0 team is focused on our funnel and onboarding builder - a visual editor customers use to create their checkout experiences. It's a complex UI with real-time preview, component management, and integrations with the rest of the platform.The StackPHP (Laravel/Symfony, OOP)React components for editor UIMySQL/PostgreSQL, Redis, RabbitMQREST APIs, Composer, PHPUnit, Docker, CI/CD pipelinesDeployments multiple times per weekWe use PHPStan, PSR standards, and structured code reviews to maintain quality.The EnvironmentSmall, autonomous team (4–5 engineers)Real ownership of work – not just executing ticketsDirect collaboration with product and designThorough but constructive code reviewsRemote-first, async-friendly cultureKey ResponsibilitiesWeek to week:Extend backend APIs, business logic, and database queries in PHPBuild and enhance UI components using React and modern JSShip features end-to-end: from requirements to production deploymentDebug and fix issues in both legacy and modern codeWrite automated tests for backend and frontend flowsParticipate in code reviews and technical discussionsOver time:Take ownership of specific backend services, API endpoints, or frontend modulesHelp migrate legacy PHP/jQuery code to modern full-stack patternsImprove performance, reliability, and scalability across the stackMentor other engineers through pairing and feedbackRequired SkillsTechnical:5+ years of professional experience building and maintaining web applications at scaleStrong PHP fundamentals: OOP, MVC, Laravel/Symfony or similar frameworksExperience with full-stack development (PHP backend + JS frontend)Comfortable navigating legacy PHP codebases and modernizing themExperience with REST APIs, relational databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL), and caching systems (Redis, Memcached)Can write automated tests (PHPUnit, Jest, or similar)Understanding of frontend basics: HTML, CSS, JavaScriptFamiliarity with deployment pipelines, Git, and CI/CDExperience of using AI Agents and implementing and building AI tools and AgentsApproach:You default to shipping incremental improvements over big rewritesYou ask good questions when requirements are unclearYou balance code quality with business needsYou're comfortable working in codebases that aren't perfectYou can explain technical tradeoffs to non-engineersNice To HavesExperience building SaaS or e-commerce platformsMigrating legacy PHP apps to modern frameworksExperience with React or other modern frontend frameworksFamiliarity with microservices, modular architectures, or API-first designsCloud infrastructure experience (AWS, GCP)What Success Looks LikeFirst 30 days:Ship at least one meaningful full-stack improvementUnderstand key backend services and frontend flowsComfortable navigating legacy and modern codeFirst 60 DaysIndependently own and ship medium-sized features across the stackProvide helpful code reviews to the teamIdentify and propose improvements to full-stack workflows or codeFirst 90 DaysHave deep context in 1-2 areas and a roadmap for improvements you'd like to drive.Lead a refactor or performance/quality improvement initiativeMeasurably improve performance, reliability, or test coverage in your areasLearn More About ThriveCartOur team thrives on collaboration, innovation, and continuous growth.
