Digital Strategist (Part-Time)
Position PurposeThe Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching’s mission is to catalyze transformational change in education, so that every student has the opportunity to lead a healthy, dignified and fulfilling life. And over the last century, the Foundation’s work has had a profound and positive impact, including creating the Carnegie Unit (the credit hour), TIAA, Pell Grants, ETS, the Flexner Report (shaping U.S. medical education), the Carnegie Classifications. Today, the Foundation is focused on two intersecting fronts with strong connection to our legacy: transforming the American high school, and evolving postsecondary education into a more effective engine for social and economic mobility.The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching is seeking a part-time Digital Strategist to support our Communications & Engagement team during a maternity leave period. This role plays a central part in shaping and executing our digital presence across all digital channels (social media, website). The ideal candidate combines strong editorial judgment, a proactive, collaborative approach to content development, and has a deep understanding and ability to integrate the best and latest AI tools.Key ResponsibilitiesSocial Media & Executive PresenceWrite, edit, and publish content across Carnegie’s social channelsManage the social media calendar and align content with key prioritiesPartner with the President to manage LinkedIn presenceMonitor trends to identify timely engagement opportunitiesPartner Content & Campaign SupportDevelop social kits for partnered content (interviews, profiles, features)Collaborate with internal teams to ensure campaign alignmentWebsite Content ManagementMaintain and update key website sections (homepage, recent media, etc.)Coordinate with creative and development teams to implement updatesEnsure all content reflects current priorities and brand standardsNewsletter ProductionDesign and build the monthly HubSpot newsletterCreate graphics in Canva and manage scheduling and deploymentOptimize content, layout, and messaging for engagementTrend Monitoring & Thought LeadershipTrack trends across high school and higher education landscapesSource relevant content and recommend timely, strategic topicsPresentation & Creative CoordinationCoordinate presentation development with external vendorsLead content creation and editing for board and funder materialsTeam CollaborationParticipate in bi-weekly communications syncsShare updates on priorities, timelines, and cross-channel workRequired Education and ExperienceBachelor's degree in Journalism, Digital Media, Marketing, Public Relations, or Communications5 years of professional work experience in social media strategy, and digital platform communications.5 years of experience with assessment and reporting of digital campaigns and website metrics.5 years of experience in social media advertising (paid and organic) on social platforms.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities A strong writer with a demonstrated understanding of how to build campaigns incorporating email, social media, digital ads, and online content using AI Tools.Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with UX and UI principles.Experience with Google Analytics, search engine optimization (SEO), and web/social media integration.Able to exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significanceAble to set and follow schedules and meet deadlines.A strong verbal communicator and presenter.Able to work thoughtfully and flexibly as part of a team and with external partners.Self-motivated, resourceful, and collaborative.Able to manage multiple and complex tasks simultaneously under tight deadlines.Thorough technical skills in computer applications for digital production, image handling, publishing and design, illustration, presentation preparation, animation, web interaction, and/or other state-of-the-art digital communication capabilities.Proficient in Canva and Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent software packages, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, InDesign, and AI Tools.The schedule for this role is Monday through Friday, 17.5 hours a week, at a $70.62 hourly rate.
