< The Sr. Associate Director of Development is responsible for securing major gifts to support Johns Hopkins University and its divisions or departments. The Sr. Associate Director of Development will manage the full life cycle of their portfolio of ($1M+), high potential prospects and donors, implementing strategic fundraising plans, and working collaboratively with university leadership, faculty, staff, and colleagues to achieve fundraising goals. The Sr. Associate Director of Development will focus on securing gifts of $100,000 and above. This position requires travel and meetings on and off campus during regular and non-traditional business hours and is expected to operate with high levels of autonomy.The Whiting School of Engineering seeks a skilled major gift officer to join our Development and Alumni Relations team. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Development, the Sr. Associate Director of Development will maintain a Northeast region-focused portfolio of individual constituents with the capacity to make six and seven-figure gifts.Key responsibilities:Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of new and existing major gift donors.Develop and execute personalized cultivation strategies to engage and build relationships with an assigned portfolio and may execute strategies for the engagement and solicitation of principal-level donors.Collaborate with divisional/departmental or DAR leadership to develop and implement comprehensive fundraising goals.Determine annual work plan goals in consultation with departmental/divisional development leadership and track fundraising activity in the CRM.Collaborate with fundraising professionals and specialists across DAR to help create and drive a strategy beyond one's immediate portfolio (e.g.: inclusive of alignment with foundation, corporate, and planned giving).Develop and participate in implementing annual stewardship plans for donors in a defined portfolio.Implement strategies for pipeline building through data analytics and outreach.Conduct regular donor visits, in-person and virtually, and communicate to strengthen relationships and move prospects through the donor cycle.Prepare and present compelling proposals that articulate Johns Hopkins University's or Johns Hopkins Medicine's needs, values, and ambitions to secure major gift commitments.Create, lead, and collaborate on the planning and execution of major development events including Advisory Board meetings, lecture series, virtual seminars, professorship dedications, donor recognition events, etc.May lead and manage a volunteer group such as an advisory board or council.May have direct supervision of team members. As supervisor, lead, mentor, and motivate staff by assigning tasks, monitoring performance, resolving conflicts, and ensuring compliance with JHU policies to achieve organizational goals.Build and maintain strong relationships with faculty.Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of divisional/departmental mission, history, teaching, research, and/or clinical programs to effectively communicate funding opportunities. Stay abreast of divisional/departmental collaborative partnerships, priorities, and shared goals. Train and debrief internal colleagues on current priorities and cases for support.Represent the university at various events and activities to promote fundraising efforts.Create reports on gift activities and progress toward goals to unit leadership.Other duties as assignedIn addition to the duties described above, the Sr. Associate Director will:Manage a portfolio to proactively identify, cultivate, and solicit individual constituents capable of making six and seven-figure gifts. This requires conducting a minimum of 100 in-person or virtual meetings annually, with a primary focus on the Northeast region.Actively contribute to the identification and qualification of new major gift donor prospects for the Whiting School of Engineering.Serve as the primary development liaison to 2-3 departments within the Whiting School of Engineering. Meet regularly with faculty to encourage participation and engagement in development activities and support philanthropic initiatives across department advisory boards.Collaborate closely with internal constituent engagement partners and assist in the execution of regional events within the Northeast territory.Partner with Development and Alumni Relations colleagues across Johns Hopkins University and Medicine to align strategies and maximize outcomes.Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree.Five years of professional related experience.Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.Preferred QualificationsAdvanced degree (Master's or JD).Higher education and/or academic medical fundraising experience.Proven solicitation success at the major gift level ($100K) level.Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook).Experience using a CRM.Plus Delta Partners training or equivalent major gift fundraising training.Ability to serve as a collaborative team player, providing guidance and mentorship to colleagues while actively supporting the goals of the broader team.High degree of professionalism, discretion, and a relationship-driven, service mindset.Must be willing to commit to a minimum of two overnight or multi-night trips each month.
