Role DescriptionThe Director of Risk & Safety Operations is a full-time on-site role located in Terre Haute, IN. This role involves overseeing enterprise risk management processes, ensuring regulatory compliance, and conducting safety audits. The director will identify and mitigate operational risks, perform frequent evaluations of safety protocols and practices, and develop strategies to enhance safety and compliance. Leading and training the team to adhere to best practices while collaborating with other departments to ensure alignment with organizational goals is a key focus of this position.Core Responsibilities1. Field Safety LeadershipConduct routine ride-alongs across all service areasEvaluate driver behavior, patient handling, and on-scene operationsProvide real-time coaching and corrective actionIdentify gaps between policy and actual field execution2. Fleet & Driver Safety ManagementDevelop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive driver safety programMonitor and track:Preventable accidentsDriver behavior trends (speeding, braking, distractions)Establish driver accountability systems and performance standards3. Incident Investigation & Root Cause AnalysisLead investigations for:Vehicle accidentsEmployee injuriesPatient-related safety events (non-clinical)Perform detailed root cause analysis (not surface-level reporting)Identify contributing factors and implement corrective measures4. Training & Behavior ChangeDevelop and deliver:Driver safety training programsPost-incident retrainingOngoing safety refreshersEnsure training results in measurable behavior improvementReinforce a culture of accountability and safety5. Data Analysis & ReportingTrack and analyze key safety metrics across all locationsIdentify trends in:IncidentsHigh-risk employeesHigh-risk locationsPartner with leadership to develop dashboards and reporting toolsProvide actionable insights6. Safety Audits & Field ActivityConduct regular:Safety auditsDriver evaluationsOperational reviewsMaintain strong field presence and visibilityEnsure consistency across all service areas7. Insurance & Claims SupportPartner with Chief Compliance Officer on:Workers’ compensation claimsAuto liability incidentsProvide operational insight to reduce claim frequency and severityAssist in identifying cost-reduction opportunities8. Program Development & StandardizationAssist in developing standardized safety procedures across all locationsSupport alignment with company policies and regulatory expectationsDrive consistency in safety practices across all statesQualificationsExperience in Risk Management, with the ability to identify, assess, and mitigate organizational risks effectively.Strong Analytical Skills to analyze safety data, detect trends, and implement solutions to improve operations.Knowledge of Regulatory Compliance requirements, ensuring adherence to local, state, and federal guidelines governing ambulance operations.Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.Proven experience in EMS operations, fire service, fleet safety, or similar high-liability fieldDemonstrated success in reducing accidents, incidents, or claimsStrong field leadership presence with the ability to influence behaviorExperience conducting incident investigations and root cause analysisWillingness to travel between multiple locations and conduct field workProficiency in using relevant safety management software and tools.Familiarity with healthcare and emergency medical services is a plus.Bachelor’s degree in risk management, business administration, healthcare administration, or a related field is preferred.Preferred QualificationsPrior leadership experience in:Multi-site or multi-state operations·       EVOC CertificationBackground in:EMS leadership, fire service officer roles, or large fleet operationsExperience with:Telematics systems (e.g., Samsara, Traumasoft)Safety dashboards or reporting toolsFamiliarity with:Workers’ compensation and auto liability processesOSHA rules and regulations as it relates to EMSExperience developing and implementing safety training programsWe offer a comprehensive benefits package designed to support our employees both professionally and personally.
