We fulfill our mission through our organizational beliefs.Job DescriptionThe Reading Interventionist is responsible for supporting student achievement in the area of English Language Arts, with special emphasis on reading. The Interventionist provides individual or small group instruction to students who are one or more grade level behind in reading or writing. This position is also responsible for monitoring, reporting, and communicating student progress and performance.Job ResponsibilitiesIntervention InstructionProvides high quality phonics, reading, and writing instruction to individual students and small groups of students who are one or more grades below grade level in readingSets a positive, trauma-informed, and mastery-driven culture for small group instructionUses identified research-based interventions focused specifically on individual student needsWorks in conjunction with teachers, leaders, and school structures to create a comprehensive schedule with students on caseload that complements classroom instructionPlans and implements research-driven intervention instruction to students that is responsive to students language, social-emotional, and instructional needs.Data Driven InterventionAssists with identifying students for placement in intervention groupsUses data to provide instruction to students and to bring their phonics and reading skills to grade-levelProvides data to school teams and participates in decision about student progressCommunicates with teachers, administration, and families regarding student progressParticipates in meeting with teachers, administration, and families to discuss student placement and progressSupports implementation of assessment tools and data management systemsProgress monitors students throughout each instructional windowCollaborationProvides input for school-wide intervention program developmentCollaborates with teachers, leaders, and families to help identify strategies and best practices for individual and small groups of studentsSupports MTSS team and MTSS plans for individual students through sharing best practices and helping measure impact of different interventionsJob QualificationsUnwaveringly high expectations for all students with the belief that every child should have access to a college educationStrong attention to detail and ability to communicate effectively in person, via phone, and in writingAbility to use technology seamlesslyAbility to work effectively under stressful working conditionsInitiative and strong work ethicDemonstrated understanding and use of equitable and culturally responsive practicesBachelors degree and Teaching License, or desire/ability to gain teaching credential5+ years of successful classroom teaching experience requiredMust have and demonstrated foundational knowledge of the science of readingWillingness and/or demonstrated ability to work with students across grade levels K-8Spanish or Burmese language proficiency preferredFamiliarity with iReady, ANet, Dibels, and data driven instructional practices.Proficiency in and experience with research-based intervention programs (e.g. Wilson Reading System, Orton-Gillingham, 95 Literacy Intervention System, or similar) highly preferred.Minimum Physical Requirements:Be able to walk quickly, bend, kneel, crouch, sit, stand, grab or hold with one or both hands.Be able to lift up to 40lbs without difficultyThe ability to sit for extended periods during group trainingStrong classroom management in elementary and/or middle schoolSalary and BenefitsVega Collegiate Academy offers a competitive salary and comprehensive health benefits package.
