This position supports our steel construction management activities through pre-construction services, estimating, and assisting structural engineers with constructability and costs. We are looking for someone to join one of our Colorado offices (Loveland, Golden) for an in-person position and you must be willing to travel between offices, if needed.The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of structural engineering principles, excellent analytical skills, and expertise in preconstruction processes. This includes conceptual estimating, value engineering, design coordination, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. There is room for growth and advancement in a unique, employee-owned organization.We are interested in hearing from:Engineers with an interest in construction and value engineeringEstimators with an interest in streamlining design or improving constructability and costExperienced preconstruction managers who are passionate about a better way to deliverProfessionals looking for a new challenge and a different approach to design/buildOut of the box thinkers looking for an opportunity to improve the industryDuties:Prepare detailed take-off's and quantity surveys for structural steel, mass timber, and miscellaneous metals integrating preconstruction considerations and utilizing tools such as Revit, Bluebeam, Excel, and a proprietary Cost ModelerAnalyze project specifications, drawings, and other documents to develop a complete scope of work considering both structural engineering aspects and preconstruction aspectsDevelop plans for the logistics aspects including site constraints, schedule, sequencing, and safety while helping develop innovative construction means and methods to increase efficiencyCollaborate with structural engineers, architects, fabricators, erectors, and general contractors and provide input during the design phase, offering valuable insights to optimize project costs, schedule, and constructability.Assist with value engineering and troubleshoot potential field and fabrication problemsEvaluate subcontractor and supplier capabilities, techniques, and quotes, negotiating the best prices and terms, and providing input on value engineering opportunities.Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and other industry professionals, fostering partnerships that enhance the preconstruction process.Understand building codes and verify estimating efforts are compliantActively participating in a team environmentRequired Qualifications:Minimum BS in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or Construction ManagementMust be thorough with high attention to detailSelf-starter and active problem solver with a mindset of growth and curiosity.Working familiarity with standard commercial building codesRevit experience or willingness to learnUnderstanding of standard business software such as Outlook, Excel, and BluebeamBonus Qualifications:3 years of either structural engineering or 4 years of estimating experience on steel structures and miscellaneous metalsExperience working as an estimator on commercial steel projectsMS with an emphasis in structures or experience estimating steel buildings preferredExperience working for a steel fabrication or erection companyProficiency with RevitProficiency working in BluebeamKL&A Benefits:Medical: Approx 80% of Family policy is paid by KL&AFamily Dental and Vision paid 100% by KL&AShort- and Long-Term DisabilityLife Insurance401(k) plan with company matchEmployee ownedVacation and sick leavePaid Parental LeavePaid HolidaysSalary: $85,000 - $110,000 AnnuallyBonuses are awarded at discretion, not guaranteed.
