JOB TITLE: Career CoachDIVISION: Adult ServicesDEPARTMENT: SEMCA Wayne AJC (PATH)LOCATION: Wayne American Job Center (35731 W Michigan Ave, Wayne, MI 48184)REPORTS TO: Program ManagerFLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt/HourlyCLASSIFICATION: Full-Time RegularAPPROVED DATE: 9/16/2025JOB SUMMARY: Assists program participants to obtain stable employment and advance themselvestoward economic self-sufficiency by providing comprehensive support services.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Interviews potential program participants who have been referred to SERCO for services; reviewsapplicant's application and other documentation to assess possible barriers to be addressed.2. Facilitates intake/orientation, explaining AEP/PATH program requirements and expectations.3. Provides comprehensive support services to assigned program participants. Duties include, but arenot limited to, individual counseling, transportation plan development, childcare planning, drug abusetreatment and other specialized services referrals.4. Works with program participant to develop an ISS plan of action and Career Plan, outlining necessarysteps for the individual to increase job readiness, address barriers to employment and achieve primaryand secondary goals.5. Provides counseling and intervention to address observed barriers that may reduce the participant'schances of successfully completing the program; makes referrals as needed. Works withrepresentatives of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), Friend of theCourt, Department of Corrections and/or other agencies as necessary to ensure that the needs of theparticipant are addressed, including those affecting program compliance.6. Provides referrals to education related activities that will increase skills and/or lead to a certificationneeded to achieve basic skills and/or employment.7. Develops and maintains a working relationship with program participants and staff to ensure thatconcerns/barriers to successful program completion are addressed and resolved appropriately.8. Maintains participant records ensuring documentation of all program activities, attendance records,progress reports and other information as required by SERCO and the program funding source.9. Attends meetings as required by SERCO, the training institution and/or other agencies to addressparticipant concerns.10. Completes follow-up and provides reminders of required documentation and information.11. Conducts home visits as necessary.12. Maintains knowledge of current labor market and occupational trends.13. Contributes to the team effort by performing other duties as assigned.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: NoneJOB QUALIFICATIONS:1. Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or University in Social Work, guidance, counseling orrelated field.2. One to two years of experience in case management or related field.3. Working knowledge of local community services and agencies.4. Computer skills necessary to maintain various records and reports.5. Interpersonal skills necessary to build positive relationships with program participants and varioussupport agencies.6. Mental ability to handle pressures related to dealing with multiple individuals from diversebackgrounds and varying levels of need.7. Must be willing to travel and work flexible hours. (Evening and/or weekend hours may be occasionallyrequired.)8. Must have a valid Michigan Driver's license. Incumbent must also have reliable transportation toattend meetings outside of the office as needed.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met byan employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the dutiesof this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear. The employee is frequently requiredto stand, walk, sit for extended periods of time, and have sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity tooperate a phone, computer keyboard, and other office equipment. Must be able to lift a minimum of 10pounds.WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of thosean employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. -This job operates in anormal school environment with a noise level, which is at times, moderately loud with little discomfortdue to noise, dirt, dust and the like.
