About Green Core TrainingThe Green Core Training (GCT) provides environmental literacy and workplace readiness training to people in the Kansas City region using a nationally recognized curriculum, and then helps program graduates find green jobs suited to their education, skills, and interests. There are five phases to the GCT. First, we promote the training. Second, through interviews, we determine which prospective students to admit. Third, we run the multi-week training, bringing community partners and employers into the classroom to speak to the students. Fourth, we assist program graduates in determining which jobs are of interest to them and then finding and applying for those jobs. Fifth, we work with employers to facilitate the hiring of our graduates.Position SummaryThe Green Employment Educator assists their counterpart and the GCT Director in implementing the GCT at each of the five phases. This position is responsible for cultivating relationships with the hosting institution, GCT students and graduates, and employers to achieve the goals of the program. This position facilitates the instruction of the GCT, while also assisting students and program graduates with creating resumes, searching for jobs, preparing for interviews, and obtaining additional resources to attain employment.Establishing and maintaining relationships with GCT students and graduates and understanding their background and desires for work is a crucial component of the position. This position will also create and maintain relationships with green employers, developing a deep knowledge of employers’ needs and job openings and making that information available to GCT graduates. A main objective of the position is to connect GCT graduates with employers, providing graduates of the GCT with employment in green jobs in the Kansas City market. Key ResponsibilitiesPromote the TrainingCommunicate with hosting and referral institutions (primarily serving the reentry population) to get prospective students signed up for the training; maintain ongoing relationships with these institutionsPromote the training to prospective students through presentations, speaking, and distributing flyersEntrance InterviewsInterview prospective students, communicating the class’s format and expectationsDetermine which prospective students to admit into the class, following admission guidelines and using reasonable judgmentRunning the Multi-week TrainingPrepare for class each day, including: reviewing materials, preparing for activities, bookmarking supplemental materials to share with the class, and setting up AVSchedule guest speakers and field trips for the classLead the classes (scheduled weekdays from 4:00 to 8:00 pm), sharing the information in the manual, running slides, and facilitating group activities and class discussionsEnsure all paperwork is completed, properly filed, and submittedEstablish relationships with each student, encouraging them to progress toward employment, e.g. work on resume, signing up for Next Steps meetings, etcDevelop student spotlight stories through collecting photos and testimonials and writingAssist Program GraduatesResearch job openings available in the metro, compiling them to share with graduates at Next Steps and follow up meetingsAssist graduates in constructing resumes, filling out and submitting applications, and preparing for interviewsProvide references or letters of recommendation for GCT graduates to green employersFollow up with graduates 30, 60, 90, 180, and 365 days after their graduation to ensure they have what they need to succeed, thoroughly documenting what each graduate is doing, building and maintaining a case file for each graduateHelp build and keep updated a green jobs board for graduates to access and apply to jobsWork with EmployersSearch for green employers within the Kansas City regionCommunicate with green employers, developing relationships, with the goal of getting jobs for GCT graduatesHelp build a system to track the program’s relationship with each employerOtherComplete instructor training and audit classes prior to leading classes of your ownHelp develop and run environmental education programming for high school studentsHelp organize a Green Jobs Fair for the Kansas City metroHelp plan and execute the launch of a volunteer group composed of GCT graduatesResponsibilities also include: weekly communication check-ins; creating content for flyers, brochures, and social media posts; documenting communications and progress; and additional duties as assignedQualificationsPassion for protecting the environment and public healthHigh school diploma or equivalentExcellent interpersonal skillsExperience working with people from diverse backgrounds Experience and interest in assisting communities of concern, specifically, people returning to the community from incarcerationBackground in community engagementExcellent communication skills, both verbal and writtenPositive leadership skills and ability to motivate and encourage others to achieve goalsAbility to work collaboratively and effectively on a small teamEducational (teaching/training) experience preferredExperience working with people to prepare them for the workplaceStrong organizational skillsExperience using Microsoft Office: Powerpoint, Word, ExcelExperience maintaining a websiteExperience using social media Compensation and Benefits$49,000 -$52,000 annually, or DOEGenerous paid time offBiweekly healthcare stipendProfessional development supportOpportunity to contribute to meaningfully to communities in Kansas City
