Senior High Voltage Cable Design Engineer Huntersville, NCFull time/ remotePosition Overview: The Senior High Voltage Cable Design Engineer is responsible for designing and analysing components, assemblies, and subassemblies for underground HV/EHV transmission cable systems. The role includes developing associated drawings and instructions, and providing technical expertise to ensure successful project execution. This individual will support the Engineering Manager in leading and training the High Voltage Cable Engineering team, working across departments to deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions that meet customer needs and industry standards.Key Responsibilities:System Design & Development: Design complete cable system solutions, including accessories, link boxes, Fiber optic components, grounding details, and bonding schemes for voltage classes ranging from 69kV to 500kV.Technical Expertise: Serve as a subject matter expert in the electro-mechanical behavior of HV/EHV cable systems, supporting installation and field applications.Project Documentation & Compliance: Lead the preparation of technical specifications, safety documents, and contract proposals in collaboration with Sales & Marketing and Project Management teams. Ensure designs comply with ICEA, AEIC, IEC, and IEEE standards.Manufacturing Support: Guide the production cycle through testing plan creation, design handover meetings, and resolving manufacturing issues. Recommend solutions to align production, installation, and customer requirements.Research & Development: Lead R&D initiatives using the “Stage Gate” process, including project planning, budget management, and timeline forecasting.Customer & Industry Engagement: Represent the HV engineering team in meetings and conferences, delivering technical presentations to customers and at industry forums. Provide training seminars and resolve complex technical issues.Mentorship & Training: Support junior engineers in their project work and calculations. Promote continuous learning and knowledge-sharing within the team.Safety Promotion: Advocate for and implement safety best practices, ensuring a zero-incident culture in all workplace and project sites.Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.Minimum of 10 years of experience in underground power transmission engineering.Strong knowledge of HV/EHV cable systems, materials, and testing processes.Proficiency with design and analysis software such as Cymcap, Comsol Multiphysics, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Matlab, PSCAD, Pull Planner, and Microsoft Office Suite.Expertise in electrical, thermal, and mechanical field calculations.Experience with coding in Visual Basic or similar programming languages for automating spreadsheets and macros.Strong technical writing and communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with internal teams and external customers.Familiarity with power transmission cable industry standards and market trends.Preferred Skills:Demonstrated leadership experience in a technical environment.Ability to manage multiple complex projects and prioritize tasks effectively.Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
