City of Forney is seeking a skilled and dedicated individual to lead and supervise a team responsible for helping ensure accurate and reliable water meter operations.Examples of DutiesGENERAL PURPOSE: Under general supervision, performs maintenance, operations, and field work involved in water distribution, water meters, and recording water consumption for utility service customers; supervises and assigns Meter Technicians for performance of assigned duties.PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.Accurately reads water meters on assigned routes, normally at curb and alley locations; accurately records readings on a handheld data device; makes necessary calculations.Provides technical supervision in the reading, installation, and repair of utility water meters; oversees assigned staff and attends meetings; directs Meter Technicians for routes and work order completion; provides on-the-job training to Meter Technicians; maintains inventory.Checks to determine conditions of water meters, reports visible meter defects, leaks, and related problems in the form of a trouble code or service order; checks meters that should be off; reports any illegal use of water.Demonstrates knowledge of geography, street locations, and meter locations within the City.Perform installation, maintenance, and repairs on water meters, water distribution systems, and wastewater collection systems as directed; operate light construction equipment; ensure work sites are cleaned, and landscaping is restored to original condition.Coordinates with utility crews, contractors, and city inspectors, as necessary, for utility projects.Interacts courteously and professionally with utility customers and the public in the performance of job duties.Performs other duties as assigned or required.Supervision Exercised: Exercises direct supervision of Meter Technician staff in the performance of work assignments, safety, and job responsibilities.PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:Operate a motor vehicle safelyWork extended or on-call hoursAbility to stand, walk long distances, kneel, crouch, stoop, and squat.Ability to lift 50 pounds.Exposure to cold, heat, and outdoor hazards.Minimum QualificationsValid driver's licenseHigh School Diploma or equivalentTwo (2) years of experience in water meter reading, maintenance, and installation or repair of water meters and associated equipment.Special Requirements: Must have or obtain within one year a TCEQ Class C Water License.***PLEASE NOTE: Complete the Work History section in full, including all relevant past employment.Resumes may be attached to the application however will NOT be accepted in lieu of the official application form ***EMPLOYEE BENEFITSMedical InsuranceThe city is self-insured and offers a choice of four medical plans through United Healthcare:$6,000 Deductible HSA Plan (up to a $3,000 HRA reimbursement + HSA City Contributions)$2,500 Deductible EPO PlanEmployee health coverage goes into effect the first day of the month following 30 days of employment.
