MD Oncology Subject Matter Expert
Oncology Physician Subject Matter ExpertPrometheus Federal Services (PFS) is a trusted partner of federal health agencies. We are exploring the addition of a highly experienced oncology physician to serve as a part-time Subject Matter Expert (SME) supporting a high-visibility federal healthcare program. In this role, you will provide strategic clinical guidance and domain expertise to inform program direction, while a dedicated project management team leads day-to-day execution. The ideal candidate brings deep oncology experience, preferably within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) healthcare system, and can translate clinical insight into practical recommendations that shape program strategy, enhance care delivery models, and strengthen stakeholder engagement. This is a unique opportunity to contribute at a national level, advising on complex initiatives, identifying emerging trends, and ensuring clinical credibility across senior federal audiences, without the demands of full-time operational management.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesServe as a senior program leadership presence, leveraging direct oncology experience to inform strategy, build credibility with federal stakeholders, and drive program outcomesSupport cross-functional coordination across clinical, administrative, technical, and operational teams to ensure cohesive program executionProvide clinical expertise that can be translated into actionable program strategy, workflow design, and implementation planning by the program teamSupport identification and mitigation of program risks, issues, and dependencies, escalating as appropriateSupport the development of program documentation, briefing materials, and strategic communications for senior leadership audiencesMentor and support junior project managers and workstreams support staffAssess emerging oncology trends, care delivery innovations, and opportunities to enhance program outcomes at scaleMinimum QualificationsMedical doctrine required, with a specialty in oncologyActive or former VA clinical experience, direct working knowledge of VA healthcare systems and operations15+ years of experience managing complex healthcare projects8+ years of direct oncology experienceExperience leading complex multi-disciplinary clinical and administrative national-level initiativesExperience in developing structured, innovative solutions and managing large teams while implementing the solutionsExperience in healthcare operations management and business developmentExperience in strategic roadmap creationExperience in revenue cycle managementExperience with program governance, risk management, and performance measurement frameworksProven ability to manage multiple requisitions simultaneously across funded hiring needsAbility to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environmentPreferred QualificationDirect experience practicing or leading oncology programs within the VA healthcare systemFamiliarity with the VHA organizational structure, VISN operations, and federal program management frameworks.
