Job Title: Virtual Speech Language Pathologist (CANDIDATE POOL) 26-27Reports to: Assistant Director of Special ServicesDept/Campus: Special ServicesPay Grade: Admin/Professional- PG 5Wage Status: ExemptDays: 192Primary Purpose:Plan and provide speech-language pathology services to students with speech, voice, orlanguage disorders. Assess students and provide therapeutic intervention to eliminate or reduceproblems or impairments that interfere with their students' ability to derive full benefit from theeducational program.Qualifications:Education/Certification:Master' s degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited college or universityValid Texas license as a speech-language pathologist granted by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)orBachelor's degreeValid Texas Education Agency speech therapy certificateSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Ability to use the accepted tests and measurements to assess communication disorders andconditionsKnowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of speech-language disorders andconditionsAbility to instruct and manage student behaviorExcellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsExperience:Three years of experienceMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Plan and provides appropriate individual and group therapy tostudents consistent with speech and language goals contained in IndividualEducation Plans (IEP).Evaluate student progress and determine readiness for termination of therapy services.Conduct independent evaluations to assess students with speech or language disordersand conditions to determine eligibility for services.Develop clinical management strategies or procedures and diagnostic statements byinterpreting observations or data.Participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist ininterpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement, and goal setting for studentswith communication disorders or conditions according to district procedures.Counsel and involve parents in remedial process.Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom activities toimprove communication skills of students.Provide professional development in assigned schools to help school personnel identifyand understand communication deficits in students.Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents regarding theaccomplishment of therapy goals and needs of the student.Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity level andinterests of students.May supervise licensed speech-language pathology assistant(s) or speech aide(s).*Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of speech-language pathology servicesand make changes based on the findings.Assist in the selection of equipment and instructional materials.Compile, maintain, and file all computerized reports, records, and other requireddocuments.Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, State Board of Educationrule, and board policy.Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to jobassignment.Perform other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities expected for this position.Supervisory Responsibilities:May direct and monitor the work of speech-language pathology assistant(s) or speech aide(s).*Working Conditions:Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Maintain emotional control under stress. Regular district wide travel to multiple work locations asassigned; moderate lifting and carrying. May be required to lift and transfer students to andfrom wheelchair or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities.*Supervisors of licensed speech-language assistants must be licensed by TDLR as speech-language pathologists. A person with a TEA certificate who is not licensed may not be asupervisor of a licensed speech-language pathology assistant.Regularly sit, talk or hear; frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; frequentrepetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer; occasionally lift and/or move up to 10-50pounds; occasionally required to stand, walk reach with hands and arms; vision abilities includeclose vision; and color vision, regularly work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotionalcontrol under stress; the noise level is usually moderate. The employee may spend long hoursin intense concentration which requires attention to detail and high levels of accuracy. Thereare a number of deadlines associated with this position, which may cause significant stress. Theemployee must also deal with a wide variety of people on various issues.
