Production Manager

Position Summary:The Production Manager supports day-to-day plant operations by managing inventory, coordinating purchasing and vendors, overseeing production scheduling and workflow, and helping ensure a safe, clean, and efficient facility. This role partners closely with the General Manager to improve operational efficiency, delivery performance, and profitability—while developing the capability to cover GM responsibilities as needed. The position also contributes to sales growth by identifying precast product opportunities and engaging customers and prospective customers.Key ResponsibilitiesInventory Management (Raw Materials, WIP, Finished Goods)● Maintain accurate inventory records for raw materials, work-in-process (WIP), and finished goods.● Supervise inventory control activities, including counts/cycle counts, reconciliation, and accuracy improvements.● Direct organization of all inventory and ensure optimal stock levels for production needs.● Ensure inventory is stored in the right quantities and locations to support cost management and production efficiency.● Manage and disposition excess/obsolete inventory in the most cost-effective manner.Purchasing & Vendor Management● Supervise vendors and ensure Dixie Precast uses the most cost-effective suppliers.● Optimize order quantities, on-hand levels, lead times, deliveries, and pricing.● Manage ordering processes to ensure materials and supplies are available to support production schedules.Production Scheduling & Order Delivery● Supervise the production schedule to ensure customer orders are produced and delivered on time.● Manage inventory and production planning to optimize delivery timing and minimize holding costs.● Evaluate past inventory and order levels; monitor current orders, future orders, and anticipated customer demand.● Forecast product needs using historical trends and projected customer demand to support consistent fulfillment.Production Process Supervision & Continuous Improvement● Supervise production processes and continuously improve throughput and performance.● Optimize staffing, communication, workflow, and finished goods management.● Improve staffing levels, training, job duties, and job performance expectations.● Optimize workstations and order flow for efficiency and quality.● Improve inventory locations, management practices, and quantities aligned to production needs.Machinery, Equipment & Facility Oversight● Supervise machinery and equipment usage; optimize type, quantity, uptime, and productivity. ● Serve as plant supervisor to ensure the facility is safe, clean, and productive at all times. ● Improve, monitor, and manage the facility Safety Program (training, compliance, audits, corrective actions). ● Drive initiatives to improve overall operations efficiency and profitability.GM Support & Cross-Training● Work directly with the GM to learn daily leadership responsibilities and cover duties as needed.● Provide operational coverage to enable the GM to focus on customer meetings and business development.Sales Support & Business Development● Identify precast uses and demand while meeting customers and prospective customers to drive incremental DP Sales while monitoring upcoming projects and bid opportunities.● Develop and maintain a basic sales pipeline (leads, quotes, follow-ups, and next steps) and review weekly with the GM.● Assist with quoting and bid preparation by gathering project requirements, coordinating internal pricing inputs, and ensuring fast quote turnaround.● Promote Dixie Precast capabilities by identifying where precast can replace alternative solutions (cast-in-place, block, steel) to reduce customer labor and improve schedule certainty.● Conduct post-delivery follow-ups to confirm satisfaction, resolve issues quickly, and capture reorders and referrals.● Track basic sales activity and outcomes (new contacts, quotes sent, conversion rate, and repeat orders) and report progress to the GM.
