Job OverviewProvides anesthesia services to patients during surgical, obstetrical, and other procedures under physician supervision. Works in a collaborative model with residents, fellows, attendings, and staff.EducationMaster's degree from a school of nurse anesthesia accredited by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA).Work ExperienceNone required.CertificationsLicense as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of practice.Certification through the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA).Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification from the American Heart Association.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and retrieval of patient information; proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.Job DutiesDocuments patient procedures and incidents.Assesses patient before, during, and after administering anesthesia.Ensures patient safety and administers anesthesia following accepted practice techniques.Acts as a liaison to surgeons, anesthesiologists, co-workers, patients, and families.Participates in department quality assurance initiatives and activities of professional development.Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.Physical & Environmental DemandsMust be able to stand for prolonged periods, work flexible schedules (24/7, weekend, holiday, on-call), and work in an area with exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue.
