Our mission is to provide high-quality, ethical training that enhances independence and quality of life for individuals with disabilities.Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT) with proven expertise in service dog task training. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of canine behavior, advanced training methodologies, and experience working with both dogs and clients in specialized tasking areas (e.g., mobility, psychiatric, or medical alert).ResponsibilitiesWork with a group of handlers and their canines (up to six), in class and in public settings.Conduct hands-on training sessions and handler coaching, both in person and virtually.Teach advanced obedience, public access skills, and custom task training.Maintain detailed training records, progress notes, and behavior assessments.Collaborate with the training team to refine curriculum and improve training outcomes.Educate clients on dog behavior, handling, and reinforcement strategies.Ensure all training follows LIMA (Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive) and ethical standards.QualificationsCPDT-KA or CPDT-KSA certification (required).Minimum 3 years of professional dog training experience, including service dog tasking.Strong knowledge of learning theory, operant conditioning, and behavior modification.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Patience, empathy, and professionalism when working with clients and their dogs.Experience with public access training and ADA service dog guidelines preferred.Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.Preferred ExperienceExperience training dogs for mobility assistance, psychiatric support, or medical alert tasks.Familiarity with shaping, capturing, and advanced task chaining techniques.Previous experience mentoring or instructing other trainers is a plus.Compensation & BenefitsCompetitive pay commensurate with experience.Flexible schedule.Continuing education support.Opportunities for growth and leadership within a mission-driven organization.How to ApplyPlease submit your resume, certification(s), and a brief cover letter highlighting your experience with service dog task training to altheacanines@gmail.com
