Quality, yield, and reliability are central to our competitive advantage.Role DescriptionWe are seeking a hands-on Application Engineer to install, commission, service, and support robotic systems used in data center environments.This is a remote, field-based position. When not working at a customer or project site, the Application Engineer will work from home. The successful candidate must live in or near Ashburn, Virginia, and be willing to travel frequently.The position is well suited to someone with a strong mechatronics background, an excellent understanding of mechanical systems, practical Linux command-line skills, and the ability to lead onsite installation activities. Experience with fiber-optic cabling is strongly preferred.Key ResponsibilitiesInstall, configure, commission, and service robotic systems at customer data centers.Perform onsite testing, calibration, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs.Diagnose mechanical, electrical, sensor, controls, and system-software issues.Use the Linux command line to navigate directories, manage files, review logs, check processes and services, and perform basic system troubleshooting.Direct and coordinate onsite fiber-optic cable installation teams and contractors.Review installation plans and confirm that onsite work meets project, quality, safety, and scheduling requirements.Verify the proper placement, routing, protection, and labeling of installed cables.Coordinate with customers, project managers, contractors, and remote engineering personnel.Document system configurations, installation progress, test results, service activities, and outstanding issues.Provide customers and field personnel with operational guidance and basic system training.Maintain ownership of assigned installations and service activities through successful completion.Follow all customer requirements related to data center access, safety, security, and change control.Provide remote support and complete administrative or project-related work from a home office when not traveling.QualificationsDegree, technical training, or equivalent practical experience in mechatronics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, robotics, automation, industrial maintenance, or a related discipline.Hands-on experience installing, commissioning, servicing, or maintaining robotic, automated, or complex electromechanical equipment.Excellent understanding of mechanical systems, including motors, actuators, sensors, assemblies, alignment, fasteners, tolerances, and mechanical troubleshooting.Practical Linux command-line experience.Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and installation documentation.Ability to diagnose problems systematically and work through mechanical, electrical, and software-related issues.Experience directing technicians, contractors, or installation crews onsite.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Professional and customer-focused approach when working in active data center environments.Ability to work independently from both customer sites and a home office.Willingness and ability to travel frequently, including overnight and multi-day trips.Availability for occasional evening or weekend work during installations or critical service events.Ability to safely lift, carry, and handle tools, components, and equipment associated with field installations.Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel to local customer sites.Degree, technical training, or equivalent practical experience in mechatronics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, robotics, automation, industrial maintenance, or a related discipline.Hands-on experience installing, commissioning, servicing, or maintaining robotic, automated, or complex electromechanical equipment.Excellent understanding of mechanical systems, including motors, actuators, sensors, assemblies, alignment, fasteners, tolerances, and mechanical troubleshooting.Practical Linux command-line experience.Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and installation documentation.Ability to diagnose problems systematically and work through mechanical, electrical, and software-related issues.Experience directing technicians, contractors, or installation crews onsite.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Professional and customer-focused approach when working in active data center environments.Ability to work independently from both customer sites and a home office.Willingness and ability to travel frequently, including overnight and multi-day trips.Availability for occasional evening or weekend work during installations or critical service events.Ability to safely lift, carry, and handle tools, components, and equipment associated with field installations.Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel to local customer sites.Preferred QualificationsExperience with fiber-optic cable installation, handling, routing, inspection, cleaning, testing, or troubleshooting.Experience supervising or coordinating structured cabling or fiber-optic installation teams.Previous experience working in data centers or other mission-critical facilities.Familiarity with Java-based applications; programming experience is not required.Relevant certifications in fiber optics, robotics, industrial automation, electrical safety, or a related field.
