Direct Support Professional

Position Summary
Direct Support Professionals provide person-centered support that promotes independence, dignity, choice, and community inclusion. DSPs assist individuals with daily living activities while encouraging them to make their own decisions, develop life skills, and pursue personal goals.
This position requires flexibility, patience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently while maintaining professional standards.
Essential Job Responsibilities
* Provide respectful, person-centered support based on each individual's needs and preferences.
* Assist with activities of daily living, including meal preparation, housekeeping, laundry, personal hygiene, and medication reminders or administration (as trained).
* Support individuals in managing appointments, shopping, budgeting, and other daily responsibilities.
* Assist individuals in participating in community activities, recreation, employment, volunteer opportunities, and social events.
* Encourage independence by teaching and reinforcing daily living and problem-solving skills.
* Maintain accurate, timely, and objective documentation of services provided.
* Observe and report changes in health, behavior, or support needs.
* Implement individualized support plans and behavior support strategies as directed.
* Maintain a safe, clean, and healthy home environment.
* Transport individuals safely to appointments, work, shopping, and recreational activities.
* Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, medical providers, family members, and other professionals.
* Protect each individual's rights, privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
Qualifications
* Must be at least 18 years of age.
* High school diploma or GED preferred.
* Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
* Reliable transportation.
* Ability to pass required background checks.
* Ability to complete all required state training.
* Basic computer and smartphone skills for documentation.
* Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist individuals with mobility as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience supporting individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
* Experience in caregiving, healthcare, behavioral health, education, or human services.
* CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

Schedule
Available shifts may include:
* Swing Shift (Saturday, Sunday and 3 weekdays)
* Swing Shift (Saturday or Sunday and 4 weekdays)
* Weekends
* Holidays (rotation may apply)
Flexible scheduling may be available depending on program needs.
