Mechanical Design Engineer (Lake Orion)

We're supporting a leading automation integrator on the search for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a long term contract project based onsite in Lake Orion, Michigan.This is a hands on engineering role focused on the design and development of automated assembly systems within high volume manufacturing environments. You'll be working alongside controls, electrical, manufacturing and project teams to deliver complex automation solutions for major automotive programmes.The role would suit someone who enjoys being close to the floor, solving real engineering problems and taking ownership of designs from concept through to installation.Location: Lake Orion, MichiganDuration: May through September 2026Schedule: Onsite, Monday to FridayKey ResponsibilitiesDesign mechanical systems and automated assembly equipment for automotive manufacturing environmentsCreate detailed 3D models, assemblies and manufacturing drawings using NXDevelop concepts, prototypes and production ready designsPerform engineering calculations and support design validation activitiesApply GD&T principles and ensure designs are manufacturable and robustCollaborate with controls engineers, electrical engineers, vendors and manufacturing teamsSupport build, integration and commissioning activities when requiredMaintain accurate engineering documentation throughout the project lifecycleRequirementsStrong background in mechanical design engineering within automation or general assemblyExperience designing automated manufacturing equipment and toolingProficiency with Siemens NXStrong understanding of GD&T and manufacturing processesAutomotive industry experience preferredExperience supporting Ford or General Motors projects would be highly beneficialAbility to work onsite in Lake Orion, MichiganIf you're an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer looking for your next long term contract within automotive automation, we'd like to hear from you.
