Mechanical Engineer

Overview We are seeking a versatile Mechanical Engineer to support the design, development, sustainment, and modernization of mechanical systems and equipment. This role is intentionally broad and is suited for candidates ranging from new graduates to engineers with several years of experience. The right candidate will be hands-on, adaptable, and comfortable working across the full lifecycle - from concept and design through prototyping, testing, manufacturing, and field support. You will work closely with a small, high-performing team of engineers and technicians on a mix of new product development, reverse engineering, upgrades to legacy systems, and sustainment of existing hardware. Responsibilities Support and contribute to new product development, including mechanical design, prototyping, integration, and testing Participate in reverse engineering and modernization of legacy mechanical systems, assemblies, and equipment Design mechanical components, assemblies, enclosures, fixtures, brackets, mounts, and test equipment in accordance with customer requirements and applicable standards Develop detailed mechanical drawings, models, assemblies, and supporting technical documentation Perform mechanical analysis, troubleshooting, and root-cause investigations at the component and system level Take measurements and develop accurate CAD models and drawings from existing hardware Support fabrication and manufacturing efforts, including design for manufacturability, assembly processes, and inspection requirements Assist with environmental and reliability considerations, including shock, vibration, thermal conditions, corrosion, and ruggedization Support the selection and application of materials, fasteners, bearings, seals, connectors, and other mechanical hardware Develop and support mechanical test fixtures, tooling, and laboratory equipment Provide technical support to internal teams and customers, including documentation and issue resolution Collaborate across disciplines (electrical, manufacturing, test) to deliver complete, practical solutions What We’re Looking For: Strong fundamentals in mechanical engineering and a willingness to learn quickly Strong hands-on mindset - comfortable working with hardware, tools, and prototypes, not just CAD software Ability to operate independently in a small team environment and take ownership of tasks Practical approach to engineering with an emphasis on designing solutions that can be manufactured, assembled, and maintained Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively across disciplines Preferred Experience (Not Required): 5+ years of relevant experience in mechanical design, product development, sustainment, or manufacturing Experience with reverse engineering or redesign of legacy mechanical systems Experience designing ruggedized equipment for shock, vibration, thermal, or harsh environmental conditions Experience with sheet metal, machined components, castings, structural components, or mechanical assemblies Experience with design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA) Experience developing mechanical fixtures, test equipment, or tooling Familiarity with military, aerospace, or other high-reliability hardware Experience working in high-mix/low-volume manufacturing environments Experience with tolerance analysis and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) Experience selecting materials, finishes, coatings, and corrosion protection methods Experience working with electrical/electronic assemblies and integrating mechanical and electrical systems Tools & Skills: Experience with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, or similar) Ability to create detailed manufacturing drawings and assemblies Familiarity with GD&T, engineering tolerances, and mechanical drawing standards Familiarity with common manufacturing processes, including machining, sheet metal fabrication, 3D printing, and/or additive manufacturing Familiarity with basic mechanical analysis and engineering calculations Familiarity with measurement and inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other precision measurement equipment Experience with rapid prototyping and hands-on fabrication is a plus Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) 0 - 8 years of relevant experience U.S. Citizen Security Clearance: You MUST be a US Citizen to apply. This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance. Candidates without an active clearance will be sponsored and must be eligible for clearance.
