Process Engineer
Sunstar Engineering is currently seeking a Process Engineer to join our team! Sunstar Engineering Americas manufactures superior adhesives, sealants and coating products, which are designed to improve the quality and safety of a vehicle.
The Process Engineer performs duties to establish and maintain manufacturing methods, equipment, standards and systems to increase manufacturing productivity and efficiency under the supervision the Process Engineering Manager.
Essential Duties
Develop, coordinate, and lead implementation of environmental, safety and quality policies and systems.
Develop and execute cost effective Preventive Action plan
Work as part of team to problem solve and execute cost effective Corrective Action: utilize formal problem-solving methods problem to include documented follow-up
Develop new and improve upon existing process reporting. Design, specify, purchase, and manage installation/commissioning of manufacturing equipment.
Work closely with other departments to implement and monitor effectiveness, process improvements and problem countermeasures.
Work with Process Engineering Manager to create and maintain manufacturing equipment, manufacturing systems, new processes, and system documentation.
Evaluate historical process data to improve manufacturing processes and efficiencies.
Act as project leader for capital improvements, safety and environment projects or other projects as assigned by Process Engineering Manager.
Work on a collaborative team both within department and company
Problem-solve and countermeasure for process and project problems. Work with other departments as needed and follow up with Manufacturing Manager as needed on all open investigations
Use root cause methodology to address manufacturing problems and processes
Assist the maintenance team with machine breakdowns as needed.
Act as first contact for manufacturing issues and problems, including after normal business hours as needed. Act as department contact for safety issues; assist with safety training, audits, and safety related improvement projects.
Coordinate subsequent disposal of material
Assist trials at toll manufacture as needed.
Prepare equipment specs for pumps, motors, valves, and other pieces of process equipment
Keep abreast of technological developments
Obtain expert-level knowledge of the current manufacturing processes and should utilize critical thinking and knowledge of new and existing technologies to continuously improve the safety, efficiency, environmental impact, and quality impact of such processes.
Involvement with internal and external audits, surveys, projects as needed
Document and adequately communicate all process and equipment changes outside of replacements in-kind per company standards
Support production with running batches as needed.
Gain a fundamental understanding of plant-wide control systems as they affect and manage process. Prior experience in programming and troubleshooting PLC and SCADA systems is desired.
Update, implement, and train Manufacturing’s Environmental programs and policies.
Flexibility to work outside core business hours to support manufacturing, engineering, and company.
Obtain and maintain certification in EPA Haz Waste Disposal & DOT Hazmat
This position is also required to perform other related duties as assigned by the department manager or president
Education & Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing or Chemical Engineering or related field of study with a minimum of 1-3 years’ experience in the automotive, industrial chemicals and/or adhesives industries or related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have organizational and verbal and written communication skills. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office. Experience with integrated business software, Core Tools and APQP process/documentation helpful. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for the majority of an eight-hour day, and function in a fast-paced environment consisting of heat, dust, and dirt Forklift experience helpful. Some travel required.
