HV Substation Engineer (Renewable Energy)

The RoleAs an HV Substation Engineer, you will act as a subject matter expert across high and medium-voltage systems, supporting projects from early-stage development through to construction and operations.Key responsibilities include:Acting as a technical expert for project engineering teams, supporting design, interconnection, and delivery of solar and energy storage projectsDeveloping and implementing technical standards and tools for HV/MV and substation designReviewing electrical drawings, studies, and utility reports relating to HV/MV systemsAssessing calculations and modelling for power flow, arc-flash, short circuit, harmonics, and protection coordinationSupporting optimisation and smooth operation of operational plants while ensuring compliance with applicable standardsProviding guidance on early-stage transmission studies and interconnection strategiesSupporting asset operations with troubleshooting, redesign, and repair strategiesReviewing specifications for communications architecture and protection control systemsAssisting project teams in resolving construction-stage technical issuesSupporting submissions to ISOs and local utilitiesReviewing procurement specifications for long-lead substation equipmentAbout YouWe are looking for a highly skilled and motivated engineer with strong experience in HV systems within the renewable energy sector.Key requirements:Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred)Minimum 5 years’ experience in HV/MV or SCADA engineering within the renewable energy industryStrong knowledge of electrical codes and standards (NEC, NESC, IBC, etc.)Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar CAD softwareElectrical PE certification (or working towards) is advantageousEnd-to-end project experience including design, permitting, procurement, and constructionExperience with grid-tied photovoltaic systems and energy storage technologiesStrong understanding of inverters, SCADA, monitoring, and energy management systemsProven experience working with utilities on interconnection approvals and commissioningKnowledge of SCADA architecture and control systemsExperience with ISO markets (e.g. CAISO, PJM) is a plusStrong electrical design knowledge across LV, MV, and HV systemsSolid grounding in electrical principles (3-phase power, fault analysis, grounding, transformer theory, etc.)Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and organisational skillsAbility to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environmentWillingness to travel as requiredBenefitsMedical insuranceDental insuranceVision insurance401(k)Paid maternity leavePaid paternity leaveApply NowIf you’re looking to play a key role in delivering cutting-edge renewable energy infrastructure, we’d love to hear from you.
