About the Company: Day in Clay® provides multicultural ceramic artist-in-residence programs for K–12, special needs, and college students. Day in Clay has worked in over 400 schools in Tri-sate area. The artist offers both virtual and on-site clay programs (hands-on and demonstration). Students learn about culture, design, form, and function through vessel making, tile making, mask making, and potter's wheel demonstrations. All programs are custom-tailored for their curriculum and grade level. Day in Clay® also offers Staff Development for art and non-arts faculty. Staff learn the techniques, cultural history, and hands-on problem-solving, ready-to-go lesson plans to bring clay into the classroom. Job description: As the artist and owner of Day in Clay®, I am looking for a highly trained ceramic artist who will apprentice with me for 6-12 months, and eventually purchase the business. I have created a successful artist-in-residence program, and am looking to retire and pass on the reins. Only those looking to purchase the business need apply. The candidate must be a proficient ceramic artist and potter with a love and ease of teaching all age levels. The ideal candidate is outgoing, well spoken, energetic, and interested in training as a Day in Clay® teaching artist, with the intent of subsequent business partnership (and eventually running the business independently). This role is ideal for someone looking for a non-traditional, flexible teaching job not beholden to one district. Qualifications: BFA in Ceramics preferred, but not required. More importantly, artist must be highly skilled in using potter's wheel and hand building. Must have sufficient experience teaching ceramics to children and adults. Must be able to carry out email and phone correspondence. Must have stellar speaking and communication skills, particularly with school administrators and teachers. Must be a flexible and adaptable worker for different classroom situations. Must be efficient, organized, and a problem-solver. Ability to lift up to 50lbs, and project with your voice. Must have driver's license and own vehicle. Can work in tristate area (within 120 mile radius of NYC). Responsibilities: Apprentice with the artist, learning the systems of Day in Clay®: the structure and content of both student and Professional Development programs (vessel making, mask making, tile making, potter's wheel demonstrations, etc). Will learn to teach 4x 60min ceramic art sessions per day (eventually graduating to running and conducting programs themself). Will learn logistics of setup, material prep, and classroom management for all programs. Will learn marketing and promotional skills for increasing enrollment and continuation of company.
