Horizontal Boring Mill Operator

Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Horizontal Boring Mill Operator to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will operate and set up horizontal boring mills to precisely machine large, complex components used across various industries. Your expertise in CNC programming, blueprint reading, and mechanical knowledge will ensure that parts meet strict specifications and quality standards. Duties Operate, set up, and monitor horizontal boring mills to machine large metal or plastic parts with high precision. Read and interpret detailed blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) specifications to ensure accurate machining. Program CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines using CAD/CAM software such as SolidWorks and other CNC programming tools. Use precision measuring instruments including bore gauges, calipers, micrometers, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM) to verify dimensions and tolerances. Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring proper tooling setup and safety procedures are followed at all times. Troubleshoot machining issues, perform routine maintenance on equipment like CNC lathes and milling machines, and adjust settings for optimal performance. Collaborate with engineering and assembly teams to ensure parts are manufactured according to specifications using welding, assembly, or other fabrication processes as needed. Requirements Proven experience operating horizontal boring mills or similar large-scale machining equipment in a manufacturing environment. Strong knowledge of CNC programming, including Fanuc controls or equivalent systems. Proficiency in reading blueprints, GD&T standards, and mechanical drawings. Familiarity with electrical discharge machining (EDM), CAM programming, SolidWorks, CAD software, and basic math skills for precise measurements. Ability to use precision tools such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, hand tools, power tools, and tooling setups effectively. Mechanical aptitude with a solid understanding of manufacturing processes like plastics injection molding or assembly techniques. Experience working with CNC milling machines and CNC lathes; knowledge of lean manufacturing principles is a plus. Valid forklift certification is preferred for material handling tasks. Strong attention to detail combined with excellent problem-solving skills; ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
