This role is strictly focused oninpatient coding (ICD-10-CM/PCS and DRG assignment)and requires expertise handlinghigh-acuity, complex hospital cases . The ideal candidate brings a strong command ofMS-DRG/APR-DRG methodologies ,UHDDS guidelines , andregulatory compliance , with proven success coding in fast-paced inpatient environments such aslarge hospitals, trauma centers, or academic medical centers .Core Responsibilities (Inpatient-Focused) Performfull-scope inpatient codingfor acute care hospital encounters usingICD-10-CM/PCS Accuratelyassign and sequence principal and secondary diagnoses and proceduresin accordance withUHDDS standards Ensure preciseMS-DRG and APR-DRG assignmentfor complex inpatient cases ApplyPresent on Admission (POA) indicatorsand identifyHospital-Acquired Conditions (HACs) Reviewentire inpatient medical records(admission through discharge) for accuracy, completeness, and compliance Analyze documentation acrosscomplex, high-acuity cases(e.g., ICU, trauma, surgical, transplant) Initiate and managecompliant provider queriesfor missing, unclear, or conflicting documentation Resolvepre-bill edits (DNFB)to ensure accounts are coded accurately prior to final billing Abstract and inputclinical and coding datainto hospital systems Partner closely withHIM and CDI teamsto improveinpatient documentation integrity and DRG accuracy Maintainhigh productivity and accuracy standardsin a production-driven inpatient coding environmentRequired Qualifications (Inpatient REQUIRED) 5+ years of dedicated inpatient coding experiencein anacute care hospital setting Advanced expertise in: ICD-10-CM/PCS coding MS-DRG and APR-DRG assignment UHDDS guidelines and inpatient regulations Proven experience codingcomplex inpatient cases(e.g., trauma, ICU, surgical, transplant) Strong understanding ofCMS guidelines and compliance standards Active certification required: RHIA, RHIT, CCS (or equivalent) Demonstrated ability to meetstrict inpatient coding productivity and accuracy benchmarksHighly Preferred Background Experience inlarge acute care hospitals (500+ beds) Background inteaching hospitals or university-affiliated health systems Exposure tohigh-acuity, multi-specialty inpatient populations Experience with coding platforms such asEpic, 3M 360, or similar Broad inpatient specialty experience, including: Medical/Surgical Cardiology / Cardiothoracic / Vascular Orthopedics Neurology Gastroenterology Behavioral Health Transplant (kidney, liver, pancreas)Schedule Flexible scheduling within7:00 AM – 7:00 PMWhy This Role Work exclusively oninpatient acute care cases — no outpatient mix Exposure tocomplex, high-acuity hospital coding scenarios Join a team prioritizingDRG accuracy, compliance, and documentation excellence Strong, stable opportunity withimmediate impact and team support
