As our Maintenance Worker I, under direct supervision of the Public Works Supervisor, performs routine and repetitive tasks to maintain and repair City water and sewer infrastructure, streets, bridges, rights-of-way, drainage system, curbs, sidewalks, alleys, and other public infrastructure within the City as needed.Posting Closure Notice The City of Murphy may modify, withdraw, or close any job posting at any time without prior notice. The pay plan range below is shown to represent opportunities for growth and development within this opportunity. We are seeking to hire between the Min to Mid-range of the pay grade shown dependent upon qualifications. Min $40,019.20 Mid $47,662.28 Max $55,605.99 For application support, or to check the status of your application, contact Human Resources by e-mailing hr@murphytx.orgExamples of Duties Cleans, repairs, and maintains streets, bridges, right of ways, alleys, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and other public areas within the CityPerforms routine and repetitive physical strenuous tasks such as loading and unloading trucks; laying pipelines and repairing manholes; patching pot holes and overlaying of streets; sealing cracks in asphalt and concrete; remove and replace concrete to include form setting to finishing; reading grades and setting grade stakes; assisting in surveying; cutting brush, trees; mowing and weed-eating high grass and weeds; and maintaining, cleaning around street intersections, medians, alleys; installing and repairing street and traffic signsOperates, repairs, and maintains various equipment, vehicles, and tools such as dump trucks, vac-truck, tractors, mowers, front end and back end loaders, heavy trenchers, augers, blades, jackhammers, skill saws, drills, bolt cutters, and various hand tools.Works safely when working in close proximity to high-speed vehicle traffic areas, along medians, and right-of-waysIdentifies and informs supervisor of potential hazards, liability exposures, problem areas, public inquiries of the general public, and the status of work activitiesConducts daily inspections and preventative maintenance measures of vehicles, equipment, and tools such as washing, checking safe and proper operation, and servicingAssists other departments, as neededAdheres to all departmental, personnel, and safety rules and regulationsTypical Qualifications Minimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)Currently hold, or must obtain within one (1) year of date of hire, a class "D" Water Distribution License from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ)Valid Texas Class C Driver's License - driving record must be in compliance with City policySupplemental Information Preferred QualificationsWater distribution, wastewater collection, street maintenance (concrete and asphalt) repair or construction work experienceLight to heavy construction equipment operation experienceSpecial Requirements May be required to lift up to one hundred (100) pounds of equipment multiple times a dayMay work extensive hours and must respond within forty-five (45) minutes to an on-call or emergency callback, as required
