Tax Accountant

Position OverviewWe’re seeking a full-time Tax Accountant with at least two years of experience who is confident in preparing individual and business income tax returns, as well as supporting clients through correspondence with the IRS and state agencies. You’ll play an active role in tax preparation, research, and client communication, working closely with managers to ensure high-quality, accurate, and timely results.This full-time role offers hands-on exposure to a wide range of clients and entity types, providing opportunities to deepen your technical expertise and expand into areas such as tax planning, projections, and client advisory services.Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare federal and state income tax returns for various entity types (Forms 1040, 1120S, 1065, 1041, etc.)Review client-provided documents for completeness and accuracy (W-2s, 1099s, K-1s, etc.).Prepare amended returns and respond to IRS and state tax notices and correspondenceAssist in tax planning, estimates, and projections for individuals and businessesResearch and resolve complex tax issues; communicate findings to managers and clientsIdentify opportunities for process improvement and tax savings for clientsCollaborate with bookkeeping, payroll, and attestation teams to ensure tax compliance and consistency across servicesStay current with tax law changes and emerging regulations impacting clientsQualifications3+ years of hands-on experience preparing individual and business income tax returnsStrong understanding of federal and multi-state income tax compliance for various entity typesExperience preparing returns using professional tax software (Lacerte, UltraTax, Drake, CCH ProSystem, or similar)Experience with accounting software, preferably QuickBooks Desktop and/or QuickBooks OnlineWorking knowledge of U.S. tax law and common deductions, credits, and formsStrong attention to detail and accuracyAbility to communicate clearly with clients and team membersAbility to work independently, manage multiple engagements, and meet deadlines in a team environmentWillingness to work overtime and/or weekends during tax season deadlines, as neededWhat We OfferComprehensive benefits, including health, dental, vision, and other insurances100% company-paid health insurance for employees401(k) plan with company matchPaid time off and flexible schedulingCompetitive compensationOpportunities for career advancementSupportive, collaborative team culture with direct access to firm leadershipDirect mentorship from experienced CPAs and leaders who want you to growAbout UsReese Gateley CPA is a trusted and forward-thinking CPA firm based in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
