Mechanical DrafterThe Emerson T&M ADG (Aerospace, Defense, Government Business Unit) Customer Centric Solutions team is seeking to hire an experienced Mechanical Drafter to work on custom engineering opportunities that enable the sale of standard NI Products. The primary responsibilities of this position are to work with NI customers, engineering teams, and contract manufacturers to define, document, design and deploy NI products tailored to meet specific customer requirements for large scale turnkey engineering solutions. The ideal candidate works closely with electrical and mechanical engineers to gather system and structural requirements to calculate dimensions, weight limitations, and material requirements, then create detailed designs using CAD software.Core Job Responsibilities:This is a multi-functional role dealing with diverse engineering needs, including the ability to gather requirements, generate specification documents, interface with contract manufacturers and internal personnel to create custom mechanical designs needed for the system. The role will include:Generating custom mechanical drawings and designs and Bill of MaterialsDesigning/modeling /prototyping mechanical system components for test and measurement solutionsTraveling as needed (possibly up to 25%) domestically and abroad in support of project objectivesExperience and Skill Requirements:Minimum RequirementsBS Degree: in Mechanical Engineering or MechatronicsMinimum of 5 years relevant industry experience in a Mechanical Drafting RoleHighly proficient with 3 to 5 years of experience in CREOThorough understanding of fundamental mechanical design principles and processesIn-depth knowledge of 2D & 3D design tools i.e. CREO, Pro/E, SolidWorksProficient with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principlesExcellent oral and written communication skillsHistory of generating detailed drawings and design documentationSuccessful history of working with external suppliersUS Person (US Citizen or Green Card ) ONLY, ability to work on ITAR projects and qualify for DoD ClearancesPreferred SkillsFamiliar with fixture and tool designFamiliar with thermal analysis and stress analysisKnowledge of FMEA and RCCA methodologiesKnowledge of fabrication techniques, (machining, stamping, extrusion, casting, sheet metal layout, etc.)Knowledge of ESD principlesBasic knowledge of electrical design principles i.e. grounding, shielding, cable designDemonstrated ability to:Be detail-oriented, have a strong understanding of building processes, and possess excellent technical drafting skillsWork effectively in a group development environmentProblem-solve effectively - diagnose technical issues and propose reasonable solutionsTake initiative, be a self-starter, and work independentlyPersistently drive tasks and lead projects to successful completionQuickly learn applicable technology, systems, and productsHave a strong work ethic and drive to succeedBenefits (employee contribution):Health insuranceHealth savings accountDental insuranceVision insuranceFlexible spending accountsLife insuranceRetirement planAll qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
