This role ensures materials and finished goods are received, stored, staged, and shipped accurately, safely, and on time. The Shift Leader also provides day-to-day leadership for shipping and warehouse team members, supports process improvements, and helps maintain an organized, efficient, and safety-focused work environment.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesLead the daily operations of the shipping and receiving department during the assigned shiftOversee shipping and receiving activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely movement of materials and finished goodsVerify shipments and related documentation to ensure the correct items and quantities are shipped and receivedMaintain shipping, receiving, and inventory-related records and activity documentsEnsure materials, components, finished goods, and other items are placed in the proper storage locationsMaintain warehouse and storage areas in a safe, clean, organized, and orderly mannerCommunicate and coordinate with internal departments and other shifts to remove obstacles and support smooth operationsIdentify issues, solve problems, and support continuous improvement efforts within the departmentMonitor work practices to ensure compliance with company procedures, safety expectations, and operational standardsTrain, coach, direct, and motivate shipping and warehouse team members and temporary staffSupport performance management, accountability, and development of assigned employeesPerform other duties as assigned by managementSupervisory ResponsibilitiesLead an assigned shipping/warehouse team of up to 30 employees and temporary associatesProvide day-to-day directions, training, coaching, and support for shift personnelQualificationsMinimum of 3 years of prior shipping, warehouse, or logistics leadership experience; manufacturing experience preferredHigh school diploma or GED required; technical training or relevant degree preferredIntermediate computer skills, including Microsoft OfficeStrong organizational, leadership, and motivational skillsEffective verbal and written communication skillsStrong problem-solving and decision-making abilityAbility to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and manage competing prioritiesSkills and CompetenciesAbility to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, procedure manuals, and shipping documentsAbility to prepare routine reports and correspondenceAbility to communicate effectively with employees, leaders, and cross-functional partnersBasic to intermediate math skills, including working with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, rates, ratios, and percentagesAbility to solve practical problems and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environmentStrong attention to detail, follow-through, and accountabilityDemonstrated leadership, teamwork, and professionalismCommitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvementWork Environment and Physical RequirementsRegular standing and walking throughout the shiftFrequent use of hands for handling materials and performing shipping and warehouse tasksFrequent reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouchingRegular reading of documents and use of computer screensFrequent communication with employees and internal partnersAbility to lift up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionallyWork is performed in a manufacturing and warehouse environment with exposure to moving mechanical parts, vibration, temperature changes, fumes or airborne particles, and moderate to loud noise levelsWhy Join Schaefer PlasticsAt Schaefer Plastics, you will join a company with a long-standing reputation for quality, innovation, and customer commitment.
