The Lab Tech/Phlebotomist Lab Technicians are responsible for receiving, testing, analyzing, recording and reporting results of their tests. This position provides point of care testing, collects various non-blood specimens, and performs check-in responsibilities. In addition, provides technically expert phlebotomy service by accurately collecting blood specimens by venipuncture or micro techniques for laboratory analysis. This role must consistently demonstrate concern and understanding of the patient and promote their comfort and well-being while obtaining specimens.

Primary Responsibilities
Greet patients, maintain patient flow, complete accurate voucher information, prepare labels and verify patient demographic data.
Assesses the condition of patients to determine the most effective way to obtain samples.
Verifies test requests and investigates ambiguous information before proceeding.
Prepares appropriate supplies and obtains samples.
Instructs patients in the collection of various non-blood specimens (urine culture, 24-hour urines, ova/parasites and stools).
Prepares completed samples for courier
Investigates lost, broken, mislabeled, incorrectly identified or otherwise unsatisfactory specimens and follows through to resolution.
Verify that supplies and stock are adequate and disseminated upon delivery.
Answers phone and responds appropriately to requests for information.
Maintains and operates equipment correctly, with care, and allows its functionality to be used for work purposes only. Performs quality assurance on equipment (centrifuge, refrigerator, incubator). Performs preventative maintenance as needed.
Maintains privacy and confidentiality of all protected health information at all times in accordance with HIPAA regulations
Complies with all organizational policies and procedures, and acts according to ethical business standards to complete assigned tasks
Organizing and storing samples in accordance with all safety and other requirements to ensure the safety of personnel and integrity of the sample
Cleaning and maintaining lab equipment, including recalibration of equipment
Maintaining equipment records and daily work logs
Staying current on technical and scientific advances in their field
May perform other duties as assigned.
Professional Qualifications
Required:
Diploma or certification of completion from an approved program in phlebotomy or approved equivalent relevant experience.
Zero (0) to two (2) years’ experience in a relevant role.
Accredited Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification.
Preferred:
Previous experience in a hospital or clinic environment.
Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
