Lead Security Technician
LEAD TECHNICIAN
Location: Detroit, Michigan and surrounding area
Job Type: Full time, field based
JOB OVERVIEW
We are hiring a Lead Technician to run on site execution for security and low voltage projects in the Detroit area. This is a hands on leadership role for someone who is comfortable directing field work, making decisions on site, and being accountable for quality and delivery.
This is not a desk role and not a purely install position. The Lead Technician is the primary on site lead and point of contact, responsible for guiding other technicians and keeping work organized and moving. Technicians are assigned locally and are not expected to travel across state lines.
RESPONSIBILITIES
You will lead daily field activity on assigned projects, including planning daily work, directing technicians, and maintaining installation quality. You will remain hands on in the field while also acting as the first point of escalation for technical or site issues.
You will ensure work is completed according to drawings, scope, and standards. When scope or planning issues arise, they are escalated and resolved collaboratively. You are not expected to absorb unclear scope or planning gaps alone.
You will coordinate professionally with customers, general contractors, and partners on site. You will support project closeout by ensuring work is complete, clean, and ready for turnover.
WHAT THIS ROLE IS AND IS NOT
This role has real authority on site and owns execution within scope and standards. You are responsible for managing your schedule and commitments, but work is driven by project and customer requirements. This is not a come and go freely role.
This is not a figure it out alone position. You are supported by project management and leadership when issues arise.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Several years of experience working in low voltage or security systems in a field environment is required. Experience leading or mentoring other technicians is expected. You should be comfortable taking responsibility for outcomes, not just tasks, and communicating clearly when issues need to be escalated.
Experience with access control, video surveillance, structured cabling, or related systems is expected.
COMPENSATION
This is a senior level field role. Compensation reflects leadership responsibility and is competitive for a Lead Technician position. Salary is based on experience.
BENEFITS
Health insurance, paid time off, and a 401(k) are provided.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
Jobs are organized and progressing without unnecessary chaos. Technicians know what they are working on and why. Issues are identified early and handled professionally. Installations are clean, complete, and ready for closeout. Customers and partners trust the person running the site.
FINAL NOTE
This role is for someone who wants ownership and accountability, not micromanagement. If you are comfortable leading in the field, holding standards, and being responsible for results, this role will be a strong fit.
