This is a pivotal leadership role for a hands‑on metallurgical expert who wants to move beyond a desk and truly own the technical roadmap of a growing organization. Our client is an established foundry leader currently undergoing a massive "rebranding and rebuilding" phase. Backed by an investment group focused on dominating high-compliance sectors like Nuclear and Aerospace, the facility is being infused with capital for new technology and talent development.
You will be stepping into an environment with a remarkable 10‑year average employee tenure, leading a specialized 148-person operation that works with over 250 unique alloys. This is a role designed for an "eager, dive‑in" personality who thrives on technical complexity and wants to act as the final authority on metallurgical standards and process optimization.
What You Will Be Doing
Leading the Metallurgical and Process Engineering departments, providing mentorship to engineers while overseeing the chemical and mechanical laboratories
Mastering the "Metals Store" and melt operations, establishing precision heat‑treating and melting practices for a massive catalog of specialty alloys
Acting as the final technical authority in "Metals Meetings," managing out-of-spec dispositions and quality‑related metallurgical issues
Driving process control for both sand and investment casting lines, utilizing SPC and Design of Experiments (D.O.E.) to optimize slurries and coatings
Serving as the Technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for global customers, translating complex metallurgical requirements into actionable manufacturing solutions
Partnering with the executive team to drive Lean/Six Sigma initiatives focused on cost reduction and scrap minimization
What We Are Looking For
Technical Expertise: 5+ years of progressive experience in steel or specialized metals manufacturing; foundry or casting backgrounds are highly preferred
Education: Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Metallurgical Engineering, or a closely related industrial field
Leadership Style: A proactive, high-energy leader capable of managing cross‑functional teams including engineers, lab techs, and melt crews
Compliance Knowledge: Solid understanding of high-stakes quality systems, specifically requirements for Nuclear, Military, and Aerospace (ASME, ASTM, API)
Analytical Skills: Mastery of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Lean methodologies to optimize complex metal‑forming processes
Requirements: Must be a US Citizen or Green Card holder residing within a 45–60 minute drive of the Milwaukee area
