Originator
About the RoleThe Vice President, Private Credit Origination is a newly created seat on the firm’s private credit team, based in New York. This is an origination role — not an underwriting or asset management role — with primary responsibility for building and scaling the firm’s deal pipeline of sponsor-backed direct lending and private credit co-investment opportunities. The successful candidate will own the front end of the deal funnel: developing and deepening relationships across the middle-market private equity sponsor community, intermediaries, and placement agents to ensure the firm sees, and gets the chance to win, the most attractive financing opportunities in the market. This role is best suited to a true originator. The right person is energized by winning new business, takes pride in the value of the relationship itself, and derives real satisfaction from bringing in opportunities. The role is approximately 80% new relationship development and 20% maintenance of existing GP coverage.ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain deep, durable relationships across the middle-market private equity sponsor community to drive proprietary and preferred-look private credit deal flowBuild and own coverage of the principal placement agent and sponsor-coverage banker channels (a focused universe of five to ten primary intermediaries) that drive the majority of sponsored financing opportunitiesIdentify, qualify, and bring in financing opportunities tied to sponsor-backed buyouts, add-ons, recapitalizations, and other private equity transactions, with an emphasis on quality over volumeCultivate relationships with emerging and spinout sponsors before they become broadly bankered, positioning the firm as an early and credible capital partnerDifferentiate between attractive and unattractive opportunities at the front end of the funnel, applying judgment around sponsor quality, deal dynamics, and fit with the firm’s mandate before engaging the investment teamRepresent the firm externally with credibility and presence, including in-person meetings with senior GP principals and intermediariesPartner closely with the investment team to advance priority opportunities, while maintaining a clear line between origination and diligence/underwritingContribute to the strategic development and continued scaling of the firm’s private credit platform Qualifications5+ years of experience in leveraged finance, sponsor coverage, direct lending origination, business development, or a related role tied to the middle-market private equity ecosystemDemonstrated ability to source and develop relationships within the middle-market private equity sponsor community, with existing networks across sponsors, intermediaries, and placement agentsFluency in middle-market PE — including the distinctions between funded sponsors, independent sponsors, and credible institutionalized spinouts — sufficient to have substantive conversations with GP principals and to triage opportunities intelligentlyStrong process orientation and self-starter mentality; able to research targets, build prospecting lists, design and run outreach processes, triage opportunities, and coordinate with internal teamsAnalytical rigor sufficient to qualify and contextualize credit opportunities before engaging the investment team, and to maintain credibility with investment professionalsProfessional maturity and presence to build and maintain relationships with senior GP and intermediary stakeholders; comfortable as the firm’s face in front of the marketGenuine satisfaction in winning new relationships and bringing in new opportunities — not a former investor looking to return to an underwriting or board seatStrong belief in in-person relationship building; willingness to travelComfortable operating in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environmentUndergraduate degree required Required SkillsLeveraged finance or sponsor-coverage investment banking, with demonstrated origination ownershipDirect lending or private credit business development / origination at an established credit platform, where the candidate has personally built sponsor relationships and brought in dealsCapital markets or financing professionals from large credit-oriented alternative asset managers who have operated in a true origination capacity (as distinct from coverage of existing LP relationships or fundraising)
