Accounting Supervisor

Team members are united by a commitment to animal welfare and community impact.Role Description The Accounting Supervisor is a full-time, on-site role based in Tucson, AZ, responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations and ensuring accurate, timely financial reporting. This position supervises accounting workflows such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance, and prepares and reviews journal entries and reconciliations. The role includes producing monthly and annual financial statements, assisting with budgeting and forecasts, and supporting grant and donor reporting requirements. The Accounting Supervisor collaborates with leadership to analyze financial performance, implement internal controls, and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and nonprofit accounting standards. This position also mentors accounting staff, coordinates with external auditors or consultants as needed, and contributes to process improvements that support the organization’s mission.Qualifications Strong finance and accounting knowledge, including experience with financial reporting and nonprofit or fund accounting principles.Proficiency with accounting software and related tools, as well as comfort working with spreadsheets and financial databases.Ability to prepare, review, and interpret financial statements with attention to accuracy and clarity.Demonstrated analytical skills, including the ability to identify trends, explain variances, and provide data-informed recommendations.Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; professional certification (e.g., CPA) is a plus.Experience supervising or mentoring accounting or finance staff, with strong organizational and time-management skills.Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders.Commitment to the mission of animal welfare and comfort working in close partnership with a public animal shelter environment.
