Job DescriptionWe are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Sustaining Engineer to join our Application and Sustaining Engineering team at DMF Lighting in Carson. The Sustaining Engineer will be responsible for maintaining and improving existing products, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring the long-term success and reliability of our products in the field. This role requires a proactive individual with a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and a passion for continuous improvement.Key Responsibilities:Process Improvement: Create and Improve production/manufacturing processes by conducting time studies, designing jigs and fixtures, and improving assembly processes to enhance efficiency and productivity.Technical Support and training: Work closely with the customer support team to address and resolve customer-reported issues promptly. Provide training to new operators and provides technical assistance and support to the production department, as necessary.Product Improvement and Maintenance: Identify opportunities for product enhancements and work on implementing design improvements to increase reliability, performance, and ease of use.Documentation: Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation for existing products, including design specifications, test procedures, and work instructions.Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, production, and quality assurance, to ensure product quality and reliability.Cost Reduction: Identify and implement cost-saving measures in existing products without compromising quality.Compliance: Ensure that products comply with relevant industry standards and regulations.Part Numbers and BOMs: Create and maintain part numbers and bills of material (BOMs) for new and existing products in the ERP system.TasksCreate and maintain Bill of Materials and Part numbers in ERP as neededCreate and modify product CAD documentation (parts, assemblies, drawings) as neededCreate Work Instructions for product assemblies and department internal tasks.Create documentation for processes and procedures for production related and department internal tasks.Streamline production build with UL and ETL accreditationAssist in streamlining processes of taking plans for a product from development into full-scale productionMake recommendations for improvements to the product from the perspective of productionDesign and perform product testing and analysis as neededPerform quality assurance functions as needed to ensure high levels of quality in assemblyProvide technical assistance and engineering support to the production floor in ensuring production of quality productsAnalyzes and plans work space requirements and workflow, designs layout of equipment and work space for maximum efficiencyConfer with suppliers to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standardsAssists with quarterly UL/ETL product auditsAssists in special projects as neededQualifications:Education: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Production Engineering.Experience: 2+ years of experience in a sustaining engineering or similar role.Technical Skills: Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ERP, SolidWorks or CAD modeling softwareStrong understanding of engineering principles and product development processes. Experience with troubleshooting and root cause analysis techniques. Soft Skills:Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Proactive and self-motivated with a continuous improvement mindset. Additional Qualifications:Experience with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies is a plus.
