Apply via Dice today!We are seeking a skilled and experienced PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA) to manage and maintain our PostgreSQL database systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the performance, availability, and security of PostgreSQL databases. This role involves working closely with developers, system administrators, and other stakeholders to design and implement database solutions that meet the needs of the organization.Key Responsibilities:Database Administration:Install, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL database systems.Perform database upgrades and patches as necessary.Ensure high availability and disaster recovery of PostgreSQL databases.Performance Tuning:Monitor and optimize the performance of PostgreSQL databases.Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.Tune database parameters, queries, and indexes for optimal performance.Backup and Recovery:Implement and manage database backup and recovery procedures.Perform regular backups and test restore procedures to ensure data integrity and availability.Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans.Security Management:Implement and enforce database security policies and procedures.Manage database user accounts, roles, and permissions.Perform regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.Data Integrity and Maintenance:Ensure the integrity and consistency of data in the PostgreSQL databases.Perform regular maintenance tasks such as vacuuming, reindexing, and analyzing databases.Manage database partitioning and archiving.Database Design and Development Support:Collaborate with developers to design and implement database schemas, tables, and indexes.Assist in writing and optimizing complex SQL queries and stored procedures.Provide guidance on best practices for database design and development.Monitoring and Troubleshooting:Set up and maintain database monitoring and alerting systems.Troubleshoot database issues and provide timely resolutions.Analyze and resolve production database issues and performance problems.Documentation and Reporting:Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, processes, and procedures.Prepare regular reports on database performance, availability, and security.Document and communicate changes to the database environment.Automation and Scripting:Develop and maintain scripts for database management tasks.Automate routine database administration tasks to improve efficiency.Compliance and Best Practices:Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations related to database management.Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in PostgreSQL and database administration.Implement best practices for database management and security.Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.Proven experience as a PostgreSQL DBA or in a similar role.Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL database architecture, administration, and management.Proficiency in SQL and database tuning.Experience with database backup and recovery procedures.Knowledge of database security best practices.Familiarity with monitoring and performance tools (e.g., pgAdmin, Nagios, Grafana).Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
