Senior Microsoft SQL Server Developer – SQL, SSRS & Business Systems
We are looking for an experienced Microsoft SQL Server Developer to join our team as a full-time, in-office employee.
This is not an entry-level SQL position. We are looking for someone who knows Microsoft SQL Server extremely well and is comfortable working directly with complex business databases.
The successful candidate must be able to investigate unfamiliar databases, understand how tables and data relate to each other, write complex SQL queries, safely update data, and develop reports and database objects that support real-world business requirements.
What You Will Be Doing
You will work extensively with Microsoft SQL Server and business application databases.
Your responsibilities will include:
Writing simple and complex SQL queries
Joining and analyzing data across multiple related tables
Understanding existing database structures and relationships
Investigating unfamiliar databases to determine where and how information is stored
Writing complex queries involving:
INNER and OUTER JOINs
Subqueries
Common Table Expressions (CTEs)
Aggregations
CASE statements
Temporary tables
Window functions
Creating and maintaining SQL Views
Creating and maintaining Stored Procedures
Writing and executing INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE statements
Troubleshooting incorrect or inconsistent data
Developing reports using Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
Creating datasets and SQL queries for reports
Adding parameters, filters, calculations, grouping, and other reporting functionality
Troubleshooting and improving existing SQL queries and reports
Optimizing SQL queries for performance
Working with users to understand business requirements and translate those requirements into SQL queries and reports
Supporting reporting, integration, automation, and data-related projects
Required Skills
The most important requirement for this position is strong, hands-on Microsoft SQL Server experience.
Candidates must have advanced knowledge of:
Microsoft SQL Server
SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS)
Complex SQL queries
Multi-table joins
Views
Stored Procedures
INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE statements
Database relationships
Query troubleshooting
Query performance and optimization
SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
We are specifically looking for someone who can be given a business question or reporting requirement and independently determine:
What tables contain the information?
How are those tables related?
How should the data be joined?
What SQL needs to be written to produce the correct result?
The person should not require someone else to write the SQL or explain basic database concepts to them.
Business Experience – Strongly Preferred
Experience working with databases supporting any of the following would be a significant advantage:
Accounting
ERP systems
Distribution
Inventory management
Purchasing
Sales order processing
Manufacturing
Bill of Materials (BOM)
Work in Process (WIP)
Production
Job costing
Experience with SYSPRO ERP would be an additional advantage, but is not required.
Understanding the business side of the data is valuable because much of the work involves turning business requirements into accurate SQL queries, reports, integrations, and solutions.
The Person We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with SQL and data.
You should be the type of person who can open an unfamiliar database containing hundreds of tables and be comfortable investigating it, understanding relationships, tracing data, and figuring out how the system works.
You should also understand the responsibility that comes with having access to production databases. We need someone who knows the difference between simply knowing SQL syntax and knowing how to work safely and responsibly with business-critical data.
Attention to detail is extremely important.
Work Schedule
This is a full-time, in-office position.
Working Hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PMLunch: 1-hour lunch break
This is not a remote position.
Most Important Requirement
If you are extremely strong in Microsoft SQL Server but do not have extensive accounting, distribution, or manufacturing experience, we still want to hear from you.
SQL Server expertise is the #1 requirement.
Business and ERP knowledge can be learned.
We need someone who already knows SQL Server at an advanced level and can demonstrate that knowledge.
