MAC is all of those things and more.The RoleThe Multnomah Athletic Club (MAC) is seeking a Part-Time Competitive Climbing Assistant Coach to join our Outdoor Sports team for the 2026-2027 season. This individual will support the development of MAC climbing athletes competing at the local, regional, divisional, and national levels. Under the direction of the Head Coach, this role assists with athlete training, supervision, competition support, and route setting while fostering a safe, inclusive, and positive team environment. This position is ideal for someone looking to build a long-term career in climbing coaching and athlete development.What You’ll DoAssist the Head Coach in coaching and supervising competitive climbing athletesSupport and implement training plans, practice schedules, and athlete development programsCoach, motivate, and inspire climbers to grow their skills and progressParticipate in weekly route setting across boulder, sport, and speed wallsTravel to local and regional competitions to support athletes during eventsCommunicate professionally with athletes, parents/guardians, and team membersFollow program policies, procedures, and direction from coaching leadershipHelp identify opportunities to improve programming and athlete developmentProvide written observations or reports as neededMaintain a safe environment by recognizing and addressing potential hazardsAttend required meetings, trainings, and development opportunitiesRepresent and promote MAC’s mission, values, and code of conductSupport additional recreational programs and community engagement efforts as needed Note: This position is an on-site role that may require evenings, weekends, and other non-standard work hours based on training schedules, competitions, and program needs. What You’ll Bring2 years of competitive climbing coaching experience preferredAt least 4 years of personal climbing experienceKnowledge of climbing techniques, safety standards, and athlete developmentUSA Climbing Level 2 Coach certificationCurrent CPR, First Aid, and AED certificationSafeSport certification and ability to pass a background checkProficiency in top-rope and lead belaying with an Assisted Braking Device (or willingness to learn)Strong communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to multitask, stay organized, and manage time effectivelyA collaborative mindset and commitment to team success What You'll GainAt Multnomah Athletic Club, we believe in taking care of our team members.
