Engineer ILocation: Atlanta, GAClient- Southern Company ServicesPosition OverviewThe Engineer I position is an entry-level engineering role responsible for applying engineering processes, design criteria, and software applications to support the design and construction of power-related systems.This role supports project estimation, design development, contractor oversight, and construction documentation while ensuring alignment with Southern Company design standards and industry requirements. The Engineer I will work closely with internal departments and contractors to support planning, design, construction, and maintenance activities.Key ResponsibilitiesEngineering & Design SupportApply engineering processes and design criteria to develop power system solutionsSupport estimate preparation and develop design optionsPrepare construction specifications and transmit construction packagesUtilize discipline-specific software applications used in system designSupport development and maintenance of design standards and criteriaContractor Oversight & Quality AssuranceProvide guidance and oversight to approved contractorsReview contractor-developed design solutions, cost estimates, and construction packagesPerform quality assurance reviews to ensure compliance with company standardsField & Documentation SupportPull mechanical and electrical drawings from drawing repositoryConduct field walkdowns and mark up drawings for updatesSketch system P&IDs for missing drawings and componentsAssign drawing asset/component numbers per company standardsDevelop naming spreadsheets for system components and assetsInstall physical asset tags as requiredTrack project progress and provide status updatesOperations & Cross-Functional SupportSupport construction and maintenance teams during day-to-day operationsUnderstand planning, design, operation, construction, and maintenance processesCollaborate with internal departments involved in system lifecycle managementEstimate materials required for projectsSafety & ComplianceCreate and maintain a safe work environment by putting safety firstEnsure designs comply with industry and Southern Company standardsRequired Qualifications0–5 years of related engineering experienceAccredited Bachelor's Degree in EngineeringIntroductory engineering knowledgeBasic understanding of discipline-specific design softwareStrong problem-solving skillsAbility to make limited independent decisions under supervisionStrong work ethic and positive attitudeAbility to build effective relationships with plant staff, engineering teams, and vendors
