MEMS Process Engineer

To support progress across our industry, we provide state-of-the-art components and vertically integrated infrastructure for others to build on via Science Foundry.The Senior Process Engineer owns the end-to-end fabrication lifecycle for semiconductor and MEMS devices, from initial specification through product delivery. This role requires deep cleanroom expertise in CMOS post-processing, independent technical leadership, and the ability to manage cross-functional project teams and external vendor relationships.Role ResponsibilitiesProject Ownership: Drive post-processing development from specification to final delivery, working autonomously or leading dedicated project teamsVendor Management: Identify outsourcing opportunities, prepare technical statements of work, oversee vendor execution, and integrate external deliverables within specification, schedule, and budget constraintsRecipe Development: Design, baseline, and optimize thin-film deposition, lithography, and thermal processing using Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologiesMask Design: Create photolithographic mask layouts and generate GDSII/OASIS files using tools such as KLayout or L-EditEtching Processes: Execute and optimize reactive ion etching (RIE), deep reactive ion etching (DRIE), and wet chemical etches (isotropic/anisotropic)Wafer Bonding: Perform temporary and permanent wafer bonding, thermal/chemical debonding, and sacrificial layer release processesBackend Operations: Execute wafer dicing (saw/laser), manage kerf clearance and chipping specifications, and oversee die preparation and substrate cleaningAdvanced Metrology: Conduct failure analysis and material characterization using SEM, FIB, EDS, and ToF-SIMSRoot Cause Analysis: Interpret process data and metrology results to diagnose defects and implement corrective actionsProcess Control: Apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) methodologies to maintain process stabilityEnforce cleanroom protocols and contamination control standardsManage hazardous materials (including HF and solvents) per safety regulationsMaintain detailed process documentation and equipment logsKey QualificationsB.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or related engineering discipline7+ years hands-on experience in Class 100/1000 cleanroom environments2+ years in a technical leadership or project lead capacityDemonstrated experience with CMOS device post-processingPreferred QualificationsProficient operation of cleanroom equipment: lithography systems, PVD/CVD tools, dry/wet etch stations, wafer bonding tools, dicing equipmentExpert-level knowledge of semiconductor process integrationHands-on experience with SEM and advanced analytical instrumentationWorking knowledge of Statistical Process Control and DOE methodologiesProficiency with mask layout software (KLayout, L-Edit, or similar)Excellent project management and vendor coordination skillsEffective communication across technical and non-technical audiencesSelf-motivated with ability to work independently and collaborativelyBenefits: At Science, our benefits are in place to support the whole you:Competitive salary and equityMedical, dental, vision and life insuranceFlexible vacation and company-paid holidaysHealthy meals and snacks provided for non-remote employeesPaid parental, jury duty, bereavement, family care and medical leaveDependent Care Flexible Spending Account, subsidized by ScienceFlexible Spending Account401(k)Science Corporation is an equal opportunity employer.
