Responsibilities Remote Coding Supervisor, Full TimeAssumes responsibility and accountability for planning, organizing, and facilitating all technical coding and education functions of the health information management departments (WRMC, ABM) in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures, JCAHO standards, and all applicable state and federal regulations. Evaluates coding skills, trains, develops, and educates coders in ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, APCs, emergency department evaluation and management coding, level II coding guidelines, proper diagnosis and procedure code selection. Assists in documentation guidelines and abstracting for reimbursement, insurance purposes, and statistical reports. The coding supervisor is responsible for the communication and enforcement of all compliance guidelines set forth by NCCI, while maintaining coding accuracy of at least 98%. In addition, the coding supervisor will review records to identify documentation deficiencies and create processes to facilitate the improvement of the hospital's medical staff clinical documentation. Supervises coding staff including distribution of workload and weekly monitoring of all staff's productivity levels. Provides education to staff according to WRMC/ABM abstracting needs, including data capture of physician consultations, correct discharge dispositions, and present on admission indicators. Oversees continual improvement and supervision of the medical staff query process. Tracks, evaluates, and analyzes significant changes in the case mix index (CMI) and reports fluctuations to hospital administration. Serves as a liaison for communication and education between the hospital's medical staff, case management, quality management, and the business office. Makes business decisions in relation to departmental workflow in the absence of management as needed.
