Senior Software Engineer

Adastra is looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join a high-performing platform engineering team as a full-time freelancer/subcontractor in Irvine.The successful candidate will have strong experience in backend software development using technologies such as Java, Scala, Go, or Rust, combined with solid knowledge of distributed architectures, asynchronous processing, and cloud-native engineering practices.You will partner with engineering, platform, and infrastructure teams to deliver robust services and backend capabilities that power complex, data-heavy operational environments.Start: ASAPHybrid work model with 2 in-office days per weekKey Responsibilities:Building backend services and distributed systems that process large scale, high volume data reliablyWorking on performance, scalability, resilience, and system reliability problems in production environmentsDeveloping event driven and asynchronous services used across platform and data workflowsRunning and improving services deployed in cloud native Kubernetes environmentsTroubleshooting issues across application, infrastructure, and distributed system layersCollaborating with engineers across platform, infrastructure, and product teams to deliver production ready solutionsContributing to architecture discussions, code reviews, and engineering best practicesImproving deployment workflows, observability, automation, and operational efficiencyUsing modern development tooling, including AI assisted workflows, to improve delivery quality and engineering productivity
