We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual who is interested in developing both field and analytical skills, and who thrives in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. Our Blacksburg staff work on projects throughout the country as well as close to home, helping our local communities and clients by improving our nation’s infrastructure.Job ResponsibilitiesPlan, coordinate, and execute geotechnical field workUse GIS/GPS and related technology to aid in planning and executing geotechnical field workLog test borings in the fieldObserve geotechnical-related construction and perform materials testingPrepare field reportsUse AutoCAD and GIS to create plan sheets and figures for reportsAssign and review laboratory testsInterpret data and perform calculations to support geotechnical designsProvide support on preparation of geotechnical reports and proposalsCommunicate with subcontractors, project managers, and clients about project progress and milestones to facilitate project performanceRequired Skills/ExperienceBachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related major from an ABET-accredited program0-2 years of professional experienceExcellent oral and written communication skillsWillingness and ability to perform field work and travel, including assignments that may last several weeks to months away from the office Positive, outgoing attitudeAbility to coordinate, multi-task, and communicate with subcontractors, managers, and clients by phone, email, video-chat, and other means of communicationStrong work ethic and a desire for continual self-improvementValid Driver’s LicenseAbility to lift 60 pounds and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, hike difficult terrain, enter trenches, climb ladders and work outsideDesired Skills/ExperienceEIT certificationGeotechnical-focused undergraduate coursework is preferredPrior internship or professional work in a related field (i.e. geotechnical engineering, construction, civil engineering, etc.)Prior internship experience in construction materials testingExperience with AutoCAD Civil3D or similar drafting programsOther RequirementsAbility to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, and credit checkAbility to pass a pre-employment drug screeningThe compensation range for this position is between $57,200 to $86,000. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors.
