Product Design Engineer (Aerospace & Automotive)

Position Overview
Cablecraft Motion Controls is seeking a Product Design Engineer with a strong aerospace and/or automotive background to support customer programs from concept through production. This role is critical to evaluating new applications, developing robust mechanical designs, supporting manufacturing launch, and maintaining existing products through continuous improvement.
This position works on ITAR/EAR-controlled programs, and candidates must be a U.S. Citizen or otherwise eligible to access export-controlled technical data.
What You’ll Do
Evaluate customer RFQs for technical feasibility, manufacturability, and cost efficiency
Collaborate with customers, Sales, and internal teams to define mechanical designs and product requirements
Develop quotation and production drawings, material specifications, tooling concepts, and process recommendations
Support product launches by partnering with Manufacturing to ensure efficient, repeatable production flow
Create and maintain full engineering documentation, including:
Bills of Material (BOMs)
Product and assembly drawings
FMEAs, Process Flows, and Control Plans
Planners and routings
Engineering Change Requests (ECRs)
Deviation requests and non-conformance documentation
Support prototype builds, samples, and testing
Develop test specifications and analyze results to validate performance and functional requirements
Identify and drive cost-reduction and continuous-improvement opportunities
Lead or support R&D initiatives as assigned
Provide technical support across Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Sales
What We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline
3+ years of experience designing and supporting engineered products in a manufacturing environment
Experience supporting products from design through production
Proficiency with SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD software
Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
U.S. Citizenship required due to ITAR/EAR regulations
Highly Preferred
Aerospace and/or automotive industry experience
Experience with mechanical assemblies, actuation systems, cables, or linkages
Exposure to regulated manufacturing environments
Experience working cross-functionally with Manufacturing and Supply Chain
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Primarily office-based with regular interaction in a manufacturing environment
Occasional exposure to noise, heat, cold, fumes, and chemicals
Ability to travel occasionally to support business needs
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. as needed
