DIRECTOR OF OBSERVATION, AMBULATORY AND OUTPATIENT CARE SERVICES
OverviewThe Patient Services Director of Observation, Ambulatory, and Outpatient Care provides strategic, operational, and clinical leadership for a portfolio of specialty service lines, including Ambulatory Units, Observation Unit, Cardiovascular Recovery Unit, and surgical care units (2M and 5MN). This leader ensures high quality patient care, regulatory compliance, operational excellence, strong team engagement, and fiscal success across all departments.ResponsibilitiesStrategic & Operational Leadership Lead the development and execution of operational strategies that enhance quality, safety, patient experience, and financial performance while assuring appropriate patient placement, resource utilization, and length of stay occurs. Ensure alignment with organizational goals, clinical standards, and regulatory requirements. Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to improve efficiencies in care delivery and resource management.Clinical & Program Oversight Lead the delivery of high-quality nursing services across inpatient and outpatient settings within scope of control. Lead the facilitation of appropriate placement and timely transitions of care throughout the patient’s acute care experience. Lead and oversee operations of Ambulatory units, Observation unit, Cardiovascular Recovery Unit, 2M, and 5MN. Develop and implement innovative nursing care delivery systems to maximize resource utilization.People Leadership Lead, mentor, and develop clinical managers, supervisors, and multidisciplinary teams. Support workforce planning, competency development, and staff engagement. Foster an environment that values respect, teamwork, and professional growth.Quality, Safety & Compliance Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory bodies Lead quality improvement initiatives and monitor key performance indicators across service lines. Promote a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.Financial Management Develop and manage departmental budgets with responsible stewardship of resources. Monitor financial performance, productivity, and cost effectiveness. Support revenue cycle processes, including documentation, coding, and billing accuracy. Develops major equipment and project related five-year forecasts, including preparing capital budgets and completing pro formas.Collaboration & Communication Collaborate with physicians, nursing, and administrative leaders to support integrated patient care. Serve as a liaison between service lines and executive leadership.Qualifications RN Licensure in the State of Michigan Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Master’s degree required or willingness to complete within three (3) years of hire or transfer. Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in clinical services required.
