Technical Writer (Technical Project Documentation)

MBA Consulting Services, Inc. (CSi) is seeking a detail-oriented and business process-driven Technical Writer to support our government customer in Merrifield, VA. In this full-time, exempt position, you will be working closely with the Engineering Department of the US Postal Service to create precise and clear documentation critical to their operations.As a Technical Writer, your primary responsibility will be to collaborate with a variety of technical project and program managers to gather procedural information and transform it into essential documentation, including SOPs, guidance policies, installation instructions, and other project management and engineering materials. Your work will be instrumental in supporting the success of critical engineering initiatives.Initially, this role requires you to be onsite at the USPS Engineering HQ in Merrifield, VA five days per week. After a six-month period, the client will evaluate the possibility of transitioning to a hybrid schedule, which would require at least three days per week in the office.This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to impactful engineering projects while honing your technical writing skills!ResponsibilitiesAssist in the evaluation of technical and functional requirementsPrepare Statements of Work (SOW) for major programsDevelop training and communication methods to the fieldElicit business and technical processes from managersDocument processes and proceduresDocument program management processes and create presentations on themPrepare, review and edit software release documentation including software requirements specifications, software design documentation, and requirements traceability matrixesDevelop project schedulesConsolidate and coordinate cost estimates into a standard template for business casesDevelop cost estimates to help justify internal project investmentAssist Technology Acquisition Management and other departments in Engineering in conducting equipment evaluations, reviews, and participate in field testsDevelop and document tracking and deployment procedures for new equipment installed in the fieldTrack and deploy production equipment to the Field and assist in resolving issuesProvide technical and procedural guidancePrepare formal letters, reports, summaries detailing program management activitiesPrepare and distribute work product documents to end customersWrite, and update technical specifications for automation equipment procurementProvide program management & documentation support for TAPM related products and modificationsProvide general program management support documentation such as presentations, charts, and diagramsBasic QualificationsBachelor's Degree, preferably in area of specialtyAt least 8 years of experienceTechnical writer and editor skilled in writing standards, specifications, instruction manuals, report publications and brochures.Experience using MS Office Suite software (Word, Excel, Access, MS Office 2010, MS Project, and Visio) and specialized software programsCandidate must be able to sit, stand and work at a computer for prolonged periodsStrong mathematical and analytical skillsAbility to work flexible hours when neededMust be able to pass a pre-employment background check & drug testAbility to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearanceMBA Consulting Services, Inc. (MBA) is a federal government IT systems integrator committed to delivering solutions that solve mission challenges with agility, experience, and innovation.
