This role is well-suited for a mid-level analyst with meaningful buyside experience who can contribute quickly, operate with a high degree of independence, and grow into a more senior investment role over time.The Software Analyst will work closely with Portfolio Managers and senior investment professionals in a collaborative, research-driven environment. The role offers direct exposure to portfolio construction and decision-making, with responsibility for generating differentiated, fundamental investment insights that contribute to portfolio performance. Alger favors candidates who are passionate about investing, comfortable with accountability, and motivated to continuously deepen their software expertise.Duties & Responsibilities:Fundamental Research & Investment AnalysisConduct deep fundamental research on SMid-cap software companies, including financial statement analysis, valuation work, and competitive and industry analysisBuild, maintain, and update detailed financial and valuation models to support long and short investment thesesPerform primary research, including meetings with company management teams, industry experts, sell-side analysts, and other relevant contactsWrite clear, concise, and actionable internal research reports and investment memorandaPortfolio & Idea Generation SupportGenerate differentiated long and short investment ideas aligned with Alger’s investment philosophy and risk frameworkPartner closely with Portfolio Managers to discuss investment theses, catalysts, risks, and portfolio implicationsTrack software industry trends, thematic developments, emerging technologies, and communicate insights to the investment teamContribute to ongoing portfolio monitoring, including earnings analysis, news flow, and thesis updates for existing holdingsQuantitative & Data-Driven AnalysisUtilize and enhance internal quantitative tools and reports to identify potentially attractive investment opportunities within the software sectorMaintain and develop proprietary databases and research files tracking company fundamentals, industry metrics, and thematic trendsTeam Collaboration & DevelopmentWork collaboratively with other sector analysts and investment professionals in a team-oriented, fast-paced environmentDemonstrate increasing ownership of software coverage responsibilities over time, with the potential to expand sector scope and influenceSupport a culture of intellectual rigor, accountability, and continuous improvementQualifications:Undergraduate degree required in finance, economics, engineering, mathematics, science, or a related fieldMBA and/or CFA designation preferred but not requiredCumulative GPA of 3.0 or above required in a 4.0 scale4–5+ years of buyside investment experience, with demonstrated responsibility for fundamental equity researchMinimum 2 years of experience in a long/short equity environment strongly preferredPrior coverage experience in the Technology sector required; experience with disruptive or high-growth companies preferredProven experience conducting independent company and industry research, including primary researchSkills:Strong fundamental research capabilities, including financial statement analysis, valuation, and modelingAbility to independently develop, articulate, and defend differentiated long and short investment thesesExcellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly present complex investment ideasStrong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, including industry, competitive, and thematic analysisHigh level of self-motivation, intellectual curiosity, and strong work ethicAbility to work effectively in a collaborative, performance-driven investment teamStrong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentSound judgment, attention to detail, and a thoughtful, risk-aware approach to investingSalary Expectations: $225,000-$250,000 base salary plus discretionary bonus per performance Note: This job description should not be construed to imply that these requirements are the exclusive standards of the position.
