Peer Mentors serve as role models, offer academic and social support, and work collaboratively with faculty to foster student engagement, belonging, and success during the transition to university life. Mentors assist students with navigating campus, and questions that come along with being a new student. They are also a resource for the faculty member's FYEX 100 class and assist faculty where necessary. Required Qualifications Recommended by a FYEX 100 faculty member Enrolled as a Millersville University undergraduate student in good academic and disciplinary standing. Ability to maintain confidentiality Good communication & organizational skills Ability to engage with other students Complete 3 required clearances (PA Criminal Background, Child Abuse History, and FBI Fingerprints) Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of the MU campus and campus resources. Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills. Comfortable helping students navigate classes. Availability to provide students with helpful tips for classwork. Demonstrated commitment to helping others succeed. Job Duties Attend mentorship training prior to start of semester. Attend and actively participate in assigned FYEX 100 class sessions (typically 1 hour/week for 14 weeks, or as required by faculty). Facilitate small group discussions and activities within class. Offer guidance and support to first-year students outside of class (approx. 1 hour/week). Be a resource for new students / assist students with campus navigation. Promote campus resources, events, and student success strategies. Collaborate regularly with / assist faculty member in navigating FYEX 100 class. Submit reflection forms or brief weekly logs as requested. Assist FYEX faculty with necessary assignments. Working Conditions and Physical Effort The $300 stipend is based on an estimated 20-25 hours of total work across the semester (approx. 1.5-2 hours/week for 14-15 weeks). This may include: Training and orientation. Class attendance and participation. Meeting and communication with students and faculty. Occasional planning or events outside of class time.
