Key Responsibilities: Shall be responsible for providing Hospital Medicine Care, including, but not limited to: Conducting patient evaluations, including history and physical exams Managing admissions and ensuring appropriate placement in the hospital Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests (lab work, imaging, etc.) Coordinating treatment plans and administering necessary medications Discussing advanced care planning and end-of-life preferences with patients Consulting with specialists as needed Proactively planning patient discharges and coordinating follow-up care Managing perioperative care and overseeing critical/acute care settings Leading code and rapid response teams during emergencies Performing core procedures such as thoracentesis, lumbar punctures, Abscess incision and drainage, Nasogastric tube insertion, Reinsertion of gastric tube, Fecal occult blood testing, Paracentesis, Placement of transurethral catheter, Aspiration and injection of joints except ankle and hip Injection of lateral epicondyle (tennis elbow), Removal of lines and tubes, Lumbar Puncture In addition to patient care, this role includes approximately 5% administrative responsibilities as follows but are not limited to: Quality Improvement: Participate in meetings and activities to enhance patient care, as needed. Documentation: Complete accurate and timely patient records using the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. Procedure Coding: Ensure proper coding for all patient care provided. Patient Safety: Follow safety protocols, report incidents, and ensure patient safety measures are met. Customer Service: Address patient concerns by working with supervisors and nursing staff. Qualifications: Must have a current, full, and unrestricted license in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia. Suspended, revoked, or restricted licenses will not be considered. Must have experience in hospital care. Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) are required. Must meet VA credentialing standards and obtain approval from the Medical Executive Board before providing services. Must be proficient in required medical skills and fluent in English. Proof of ongoing competency and certifications may be requested. Must maintain Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements and provide proof to maintain privileges. Must complete all VA-required trainings, including BLS, ACLS, and other mandatory courses. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety standards, and a commitment to quality care improvement.
