Position Title: Public Health Student AssistantDepartment: ScienceReports To: FacultySummary Of ResponsibilitiesSomeone to work with faculty in developing a research trajectory for the campus community garden. The research activity will combine elements of public health, biology and art. It must be something focused on gardening and provide meaningful data that can be used to improve health or use of the campus garden. Findings will be presented at the Academic Achievement Showcase in April.Work includes helping keep the garden maintained i.e. planting, weeding, and watering.The Student Employee will also be assisting with cooking classes at the Nagel Clinic monthly. Responsibilities will include assisting with development of appropriate healthy recipes for a variety of health conditions, preparing a lesson for participants on the advantages of dietary change andhealthy cooking/eating, and assisting in teaching the classes one day each month.Must be able to attend functions with faculty i.e. Interagency meetings and present public health activities at various locations i.e. the Campus Health Fair, Doyle Center, Dietert Center and Glory Garden volunteer activity set up and blood pressures.Essential FunctionsAssist with development and implementation of research activities in the campus gardenAssist with development and implementation of research for cooking classes at the Nagel ClinicAttend and assist with teaching cooking classes monthly at the Nagel ClinicWatering, weeding, mulching, raking and other gardening activitiesAssist faculty to organize garden workdays for the garden beds on a regular basisTrack use of the garden i.e. sign in sheet and logAttend public health meetings and service-learning programs with faculty supervisorAdditional Required ExpectationsPlant seedlings to transplant to the garden. Keep seedlings alive by watering and checking on themin the campus greenhouse when necessary.Assist in planning and manning the farmer’s market table twice a semester during the school yearEducation, Experience And Skills RequiredBe enrolled as full-time student at Schreiner University.EMPLOYER’S RIGHTThis job description does not list all the duties of the job.
