Assistant Controller
Position Summary
The Assistant Controller plays a key role in the day‑to‑day accounting and financial operations of the bakery. This role supports the month-end close, cost accounting, inventory control, financial analysis, and compliance activities. The ideal candidate has foundational accounting experience and a desire to grow into a leadership role in manufacturing finance.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Reporting
Assist with month‑end and year‑end close, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and variance analysis.
Prepare and maintain accurate financial statements, management reports, broker and other sales reports, and operational dashboards.
Support external audits as needed.
Cost Accounting & Inventory
Analyze production yields, scrap/waste, labor efficiency, and overhead absorption.
Partner with production supervisors to validate daily/weekly production reporting.
Oversee physical inventory counts and cycle count programs.
Operational & FP&A Support
Provide daily/weekly reporting on key KPIs (throughput, efficiency, waste, labor costs, etc.).
Participate in annual budgeting and ongoing reforecasting processes.
Support margin analysis, pricing updates, and customer/product profitability studies.
Assist with capital expenditure tracking and ROI evaluations.
Compliance & Controls
Ensure adherence to internal controls, GAAP compliance, and company accounting policies.
Support food industry audits requiring financial documentation (e.g., SQF, BRC, or internal QA standards).
Assist in maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
1–2 years of experience in accounting or FP&A (manufacturing, food production, or CPG preferred but not required).
Proficiency in Excel and experience with ERP systems.
Strong understanding of GAAP and core accounting principles.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a production, manufacturing, or high‑volume food environment.
Exposure to cost accounting or inventory management systems.
Familiarity with lean manufacturing concepts or continuous improvement.
Ability to analyze data and communicate insights clearly to non‑finance team members.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
